Pop & Lock – Power Tailgate Smart Lock Combo with Bolt Technology for Toyota Tacoma, Fits 2005 to 2015 Models (OEM Color Black, PL8540)

Ordered this lock system for my 08 tacoma to prevent having my tailgate stolen as well as to keep my items in the bed locked, so my tools are safe whenever I need to get down somewhere real quick. I had a harder time finding the installation instruction than I did installing this locking mechanism on my truck, no joke. Not a fan of this scan the qr code. Almost never find im looking for. Once I did get the right year and model, took me to the exact 2 wires I needed, it was done and working perfect. I've seen other installation instructions that mention to program the key once installed, which is how I did mine, but my instructions said to program first. Luckily, I didn't mess it up, that is the one thing I overlooked and would have turned this into a nightmare if the key programming would have been jammed out. Highly recommended.

This tailgate lock is Fantastic! Fits my 2015 Toyota Tacoma perfectly. Easy to install! Saved money buying from Amazon. Delivered Quickly.I called Pop & Lock prior to purchasing this to ask about whether the warranty is good if I purchase it from Amazon. They told me that there would NOT be a problem if I had an issue with it. Nice to hear!I found a video on YouTube to see an install. The directions tell you to run the wiring from the tailgate to, under the truck, coming into the engine compartment, then poking a hole in a large rubber grommet in the firewall to run the wires. Interestingly, there is a 2" grommet about 6-8" in from the post behind the driver, under the carpeting. I poked a hole in that, ran my wire from the tailgate to the post, then caulked it to prevent any moisture from entering the cab of the truck. It worked like a charm!Additionally, because I read that this lock is a bit loud when it's unlocked or locked using the FOB, I insulated the tailgate before I put the black panel back on. I used a product that I bought from H.D. for $11 called 'Self Adhesive Foil and Foam' by Frost King (#FV516). It's 12"W x 1/8"Thick x 15'L. It fit perfectly across the entire opening once the panel is removed. It's got an adhesive on it that I put toward the opening, then placed the panel back on and screwed in place. It didn't work as well as I hoped but it did deaden the sound about 25 to 50%. Worth it to me.

The only thing is tha is not conector to the main cables

I have now been using the Pop n Lock for around a month. It does just what it says it's supposed to do. Unlocks and locks the tailgate both with my key fob and with the key that came with the truck. The Bolt Codeable technology seems a little "finicky". Almost like you have to hold your mouth just right, don't blink, and hold your breath to get it to always work. The fob works very well. I routed the wires a little differently than what was in the directions going directly into the cab and under the seat of my 2014 Tacoma and then directing the wires under the carpet and over to the bundle of wires by the door made it MUCH easier than fishing it thru the engine bay.My biggest complaint and the only reason I gave it four stars instead of 5 is that when this thing locks it is SO LOUD!!! There is a noticeable CLUNK coming from your tailgate. They initially helped solve some of the problem by putting the little foam block there which I left in place. The problem now are the rivets that link the different metal pieces together of the mechanism. It is a direct metal on metal slamming when you lock/unlock the truck with the fob. I HIGHLY recommend the manufacture try to use some sort of nylon liner in the grooves or around the little metal rivets that hold the moving metal parts together. Something to dampen the CLUNK that makes it sound like you have a broken part in your truck when you don't.....you're just locking it.

After a bunch of research I landed on this model for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma. Install was easy. There are a bunch of YouTube videos on it. It is a bit loud at first like many people mentioned but you don’t notice it after a while.

poor quality assembly, you must verify all screws of mechanism are tight or you will not be able to open the tailgate. if you have a tonto cover you will be locked out the bed entirely.when this happened to me the Toyoda dealer said they had Three other trucks with the same problem and had no way to fix it.

Tailgate lock was straight forward but depending on the vehicle, locating the required wire within the vehicle may prove a problem. On line videos assisted greatly along with down loadable electric systematics. Once located the correct wires, tapping in and making the door lock system work the auto lock, the system works great and is worth the effort.

I had mine professionally installed because I was having a new backup cam installed at the same time. So, I can't comment on ease of installation but I can comment that it works perfectly in conjunction with the remote unlock in my '09 Tacoma.
