Great reference manual
I fully realize that CS6 is old, but, when it's all you've got, this manual is a great reference and a quick look up on how to get the job done. I used it immediately upon arrive at my office and it's always in reach. CS6 might be old, but it still very functional and this reference manual is right by my side.

Great book if not for...
I would rate this book 5 stars if it weren't for the first 23 pages where the color registration is off and some of the images are rather blurry and hard to read (I'm sure it is just my copy and maybe a few others) and the fact I have found typos or images that are wrong for the captions and images that are out of date with the current version of the application that the book is supposed to cover. And those I found are in the first quarter of the book so far.Other than those few things the book is very good for a fair beginner like me and I would recommend it. The information is easy to understand and follow. The author has even added a few puns and light humor while remaining professional which I can appreciate.

Easy to Read - Straight to the Point
I'm a experienced Graphic Designer that gradated college about 8 years ago. This book captures a thorough overview of InDeisgn. I planted myself in front of my mac and practiced as I read. I worked my way through this book front to back within 4 days, plan on possibly giving yourself more time if your a newbie. I Highly suggest this book as a good brush up or if your new to Indesign. Easy to read with great diagrams illustrating step by step guides making it simple to follow along. I would suggest this book to InDesign newbies, just be prepared to "practice" what your reading while your reading it, this helps the learning process. There you have it. Enjoy.

A bit overwhelming but so is InDesign
If you find the program itself was too much all at once, this book is going to help you. I have used the VQSG series for years, even during my professional consulting days, and it remains one of the best on the market. Almost all volumes in this series, as with this one, work as a tutorial sequence by their internal arranged and have excellent indexes and structures for quick access later as a reference style text.

Wonderful reference!
I wish I had purchased this a long time ago. Even after taking a class, 'how to' questions would come up and I needed a reference. This book has not failed me yet in having answered every question I have had, and it has been easy to use the index to locate the section where I can likely find the answer. It is almost like it is reading my mind!

Great informative resource
This book helped get me through a graphic design class. Since I was new to InDesign, I felt lost when facing the program. This book is packed with great information that will help you create some really neat looking projects. Whether you are taking a class on InDesign or are just wondering what it is, this book it sure to help you get through the initial confusion that InDesign will present you with.

EXCELLENT InDesign Reference Tool
This book is truly one of my favorite reference books to have on hand. Every time I use ID I make sure to have it with me so that I can quick look up anything I might need to know/forgot. It is a really great beginner text book, but also good for pros who may not use specific tools all the time. If you are looking for something very advanced, then this is probably more for beginners.

A self-teach for new users and a very handy reference for those with more experience
Whenever I need a software guide for Adobe products, I search the Amazon website to see if there is a 'Visual Quickstart Guide' for it. If I find one, which I always seem to do, I look no further. These guides are, clear and easy to read, full of useful 'tips and tricks' and serve as a self-teach for new users and a very handy reference for those with more experience.Quickstart Guides have always been good value for money, but now purchasers also get access to video tutorials and e-versions in MOBI and PDF formats at no additional cost.In my view, these Quickstart Guides set the standard that others need to follow, and the InDesign CS6 guide is no exception.

InDesign CS6: Visual Quickstart Guide
I have used both Adobe InDesign CS6 Classroom in a Book and Brilliant InDesign CS6, however, they don't compare to Sandee Cohen's Visual Quickstart Guide. This lady really knows her stuff and what she doesn't know isn't worth worrying about.Whereas Adobe InDesign CS6 CIB skims the tasks needed to learn CS6, Sandee Cohen covers everything you could possibly wish to know about the software. I can't speak highly enough of this book. If you are only interested in the print & design side of the InDesign CS6 software, you only need one book and this is it!

You need a bit of background for this one!
I used the Easy Steps in Design to get started and am starting to grow into this one. I guess it depends where your starting point is. If you are on zero use Easy Steps and progress to this one.

Bit much for a beginner
The book was quite extensive but I found it a bit hard going but I am a beginner with InDesign and I suspect someone who had some previous experience would find it very useful.
