This has helped me learn Braille
I bought this to create labels for a blind friend. There is a bit of a learning curve to using it, but it'spretty easy to use. My biggest adjustment is remembering to put the labels in upside down, and punching from right to left , so that the raised bumps come out on the face of the label and can be read left to right. I also have to be mindful of the configuration of the dots for each letter. The chart I use illustrates the letters in reading context. I have to punch the dots in mirror image so they can be read. There are other ways to print labels in Braille which are a bit more expensive and easier for sighted people to use , but for my needs, this works and gave me the opportunity to learn Braille.

Inexpensive way to write Braille!
I'm sighted and learning Braille for the first time in order to help a relative who is losing her sight. I wanted to be able to write Braille in order to reinforce what I am learning as well as to create practice words for the person I will be helping. I was so excited when I wrote my husband's name using this slate, removed the card and flipped it over, and there was my husband's name. The set comes with both a stylus and an "eraser" that can be used to flatten any erroneous dot. I tried the eraser, and it was easy to use. My first words were done on index cards, and that produced firm, raised "dots." I've ordered some 80 lb card stock (8.5X11) to try next. You can find videos on YouTube explaining how to use a Braille slate correctly (mirroring, etc.).

Very easy to use — so glad I discovered it so I can customize greeting cards
I found a Braille printed alphabet on line and also a reverse Braille printedalphabet. Since you need to punch right to left and reverse the letters having a printed version was key. I saw a video demonstration and it is not complicated. This is the birthday card it made for my friend.

Doesn't include Stylus
So I got my package without the Stylus. How I'm supposed to write with?So sad. I thought about writing a letter to someone for christmas.

Easy to USE
We did a Women's History Month project on Helen Keller. We made a chart teaching students on how to write in brail. The slate was easy to use and had all the pieces to write in brail.Affordable and easy to use.

It works great!
This slate works great and is perfect for someone learning. It is a little small for business cards as one more row would be better, but it still gets the job done. It has an eraser which is why there are two what looks like stylus'. One is for punching and the other for erasing and they actually do work very well as I have had to use the eraser extensively. My work gets checked by a friend who is blind and she doesn't even realized that I have messed up.
