I purchased the Ichthammol 20% & Pine Tar Ointment for no specific reason, other than thinking it would be handy to have around. As I was reading the reviews for potential uses for it, I happened to notice people saying it was good for skin irritation, so I filed that information away in my brain.Days later, a painful skin irritation that I occasionally experience started to flare up. I'll be embarrassingly honest -- I'm a big girl and I get irritation in some areas where it gets damp and doesn't always get dried out right away. It gets painful to the point where it hurts to spray water on it. Last time this happened, I went to the doctor and was given some cream or another. It did eventually get rid of the irritation but it took practically the entire tube and daily application to chase the last of it away.Well, considering that the reviews mentioned skin irritations and infections as a use for the pine tar salve, I thought, "Heck, why not give it a try?" I'm out of the prescription stuff and thought I might get lucky and avoid another trip to the doctor. Let me tell you what...I applied the salve TWICE and the irritation was gone. No joke. I almost couldn't believe it and I kept checking, thinking "Surely it can't have been that easy..." but it was. Now, I did smell like I'd been re-roofing my house for a couple of days, but, hey. If that's what it takes for this stuff to work, I'm good with it.I'll be interested to see what other uses I can find for this salve. In the meantime -- if you're on the fence, just buy some. Even if you don't have a particular purpose for it in mind, you will find one sooner or later. Love it, will be keeping it in my medicine cabinet permanently!

I was unable to find this at my local pharmacy that I have used in the past. This worked wonderful, I tend to get ingrown hairs that results in painful abscesses, this brings it to a "head" so that the pus can be expelled.

As a Pharmacist, I know this stuff is hard to find. It's a fantastic "drawing salve" that works well to remove the contents of an abscess or infection under the skin. Infected follicles are painful due to puss buildup, and this draws it right out. One or two applications will do it. 😉
