So Far So Good
My old i3 with 4g ram is too slow. I love small netbooks but the performance pales to an iPad. I’m actually downgrading with this purchase since I own an i7 Dell XPS with 16g ram but that didn’t even last a year and cost me $2000!But really the difference in performance between i5 and i7 is negligible. Not really worth the extra price for i7.I bought this because it’s the cheapest i5 that I could find that is not a Dell. It feels solid but not entirely cheap like my Lenovo netbook. The keyboard is quite plasticy but doesn’t wobble. I hate the silver exterior and black interior which look awful but looks are not everything. For one thing, this does not have the adaptive lighting like my Dell which is a relief. The XPS came with this annoying feature built into the video card and so it doesn’t matter if it’s off in the Windows options and why I didn’t bother sending the piece of junk back to Dell for repairs despite the hefty price tag.For me, I prefer 13in screen or smaller and so this laptop feels quite big to me and feels more like a 17in rather than a 15in. But still, you sacrifice portability for larger screen size. One thing I did not like is the number pad on the right which took up room for what could have been a full-sized keyboard. Because of this useless number pad, the keys feel more crammed than most 15in and in some way feels more crammed than my netbook. Also those very useful arrow keys on the right are no longer there because of the number pad. This is best bang for the buck without having to spend 700 or more for similar competition.

Refurbished 2018
I gave this HP notebook a shot because it seemed a great value for the advertised specs. The specs are inconsistent in the ad, but mine came as I hoped: 512GB SSD & 2TB hard drives, 8 GB RAM, i5 processor, DVD burner. The display is not HD 1080P, but 1366x768. Detailed enough for my purposes. As others have noted, the keyboard is not backlit.Mine came with minimal documentation (2 sheets of paper, one a product support page and one a quick setup sheet. No warranty information was included. When I checked the model and serial numbers on HP's warranty status page, I found that mine had been registered last year (2018) and had 3 months warranty remaining. So apparently it is a returned/refurbished unit. Also, it appears to be a 2018 model, not 2019 as advertised.I was presented with fresh setup pages upon first start-up, so at least it operates like new.The only oddity was the 2TB drive was just a bare drive, with all data set up to write to the SSD by default. I had to reconfigure so it would save docs and data to the larger drive by default.Even though it's not brand new, its still a good value.

This was a great price when we got it
Haven't had any problems with this laptop and we got a fantastic deal on it. We always take any new computer for my wife to our computer guy and have him get everything set up and remove any bloatware that can be, and stop anything from automatically running they already have installed that we dont want. That computer guy was the one that found this deal on amazon for us. It's gone up a little in price since then but still a lot of laptop for the money.Only 4 stars because we haven't had it but so long. The real test will be how many years we get out of it

HP does it again
The laptop runs and performs great. Extremely fast with the SSD drive. My only gripe is getting the laptop to boot from a Flash drive or CD rom. It is ridiculous what HP did in order for you to do this task, The reason it is important is because when you buy backup software, and want to save it on an external drive or make and then make the boot disk to reboot with a flash or dvd you will not believe the steps you need to go through to so that one task, Other systems were basically simple Click on F12 when booting and menu of choices where to boot from came up. What is even worst is, there is NO documentation on how to do so that comes with the Laptop. I did find out how to do it, but if i told how you would not believe the steps.

I'm loving my first laptop
As my first laptop, it is great having the portability. Its a little heavy on the lap after a half hour. The vent is down below, doesn't get hot anywhere, even when on a blanket. The screen and pictures are clear and crisp, the battery life I can live with but it really is done after around 5 hours. I don't do games or videos on mine, not sure what the difference would be. I'm also new to the windows 10 so that is confusing me a bit, but not sure if the confusion is with the machine or the windows 10. It seems to be a bit slow going between programs but again, I think its faster when I'm using an "app", I'm used to a menu and lists to chose from. Haven't tried the dvd yet, only had it a month.

Very happy with the purchase
The product really looks beautiful (even more than the picture) with the nice silver finish. The performance is good for a core i5, gets to the start screen within 5 seconds. Love that it’s a 265 SSD with a backup 1TB HDD.Had to install a synaptic touchpad driver as the default didn’t come with the finger gestures. From time to time there’s a little pop sound (from the speakers I believe) when I close the lid & something else I can’t remember at the moment.Had it for a week now and I’m really happy with the buy. I’d give an update If anything disturbing comes up.

Like the computer but don't like Windows 10.
Had trouble setting up Wi-Fi but found out it was our gateway that was the problem. Since we replaced that the computer is doing well. Windows 10 is NOT user friendly. I don't like having to save things to the cloud, that's why I bought a laptop with a lot of storage. I guess the laptop gets 5 stars but the installed software maybe 3 stars.
