25 Fun Phonics Plays for Beginning Readers

Fun, kids like it
I bought this product to use with my students, and they seem to like the plays. My only problem is the number of characters. I teach one-on-one so the students and I have to take more than one character, which can get confusing, but they are troopers and it works. The phonics component is great, although the kids don’t notice it, but I do! I would recommend this book to other teachers.

Let the fluency begin!
Great classroom material. I use reader's theater in my classroom and this is great for early readers. The length is perfect for younger readers and they are clearly laid out and easy to use. A good resource to use with a classroom volunteer.

Neat way to encourage reading aloud
The concept of this book is there are 25 plays that use beginning phonics. The plays should be read aloud by children (along with parents or teachers). The plays can have as few as 2 and as many as 5 characters. They are broken down by phonics sound utilized (short vowels, long vowels, other vowels "oo, ou, bossy r, silent e", consonant digraphs, consonant blends). They are short and sort of funny. A great way to coax somewhat shy kids into reading aloud, creating a cooperative atmosphere, and practicing reading in a unique way. We home school 3 children close in age, so these are great for a fun practice in reading. I can see it being a bit for a challenge for teachers with larger classrooms as there is only one or two plays per vowel sound being practiced. So, for a larger class students either have to read the same play, or read only a couple plays per semester. Of course, if you utilize reading groups with five or less children, this won't be a problem.Overall a good concept we have enjoyed so far. I do see the novelty wearing off once students are better readers. Having a bit "to do" with having them make costumes and truly "get into character" may keep the flame burning.

LOVE THIS!
I use these all the time with my 2nd grades. Very easy to differentiate between what kids need to improve. They like them because they are fun and interesting. I like them because they hone in on specific skills and are great practice.

What fun!
I'm always looking for more ways to add reading into my children's day, without it feeling tedious or repetitive. These plays are so fun. My boys and I each pick a character or two to play, sometimes we use puppets, and I plan on using dress up at times, too. Since the reading is a little advanced for my young boys, we work on their parts through out the week before moving on to another play. Great homeschooling resource.

Just what I wanted
I was looking for a play book for a 2nd grade class I volunteer in that had children of various degrees of reading skills. This was great. They were short and we put on many of the plays. Everyone could participate. It even inspired some of the kids to write their own plays. It was extremely successful and enjoyed by all.

per le insegnanti di inglese
che vogliono tentare dei mini role-play lavorando sulla fonetica, può essere un libro utile e interessante.più adatto per le elementari che per le medie. ma non è detto.

Ottimi
Ottimi e arrivati in tempo. Per ESL ho dovuti ritoccare e cambiare alcuni testi (alcune parole sono per un livello base ma per madrelingua) ma almeno ho una base su cui lavorare per quando desidero fare laboratio teatrale con i miei studenti di inglese..
