This tool less device is great! I used a different style many times in the past and it never quite fit a Dell HDD carrier correctly. This solves all issues, works with the carrier perfectly, the SSD / HDD snaps in to this adapter and is held firmly. I now have 4 drives where 2 used to be.

Replaced all my mechanical drives with 2.5" SSDs. Needed adapters to fit into the bays. These work beautifully and are well made and metal. I will be using these on any builds I work on going forward.

In a recent (re)build of computers in the household we decided to have the boot drive available externally using a docking system, however in two of the computers it wasn't possible and so we needed another option. The TRIO from ICY DOCK provides that option by allowing the boot drive and others to be more easily accessible. In the mini ITX system, a pair of screws removes the covers to the case and disconnecting the SATA DATA/POWER cables and squeezing two tabs lets us pull the boot drive out so that we can duplicate it and then put it back in. In fact we can do this with all 3 drives if we wanted to. Going into this it was readily apparent that we'd need straight (non-angled) DATA and POWER cables. This assembly has the same physical dimensions as a single 3.5 inch hard drive in our mini ITX computer case we were able to tuck the excess cables under the assembly.The instructions were clear, that is remove the bar across the guides you wished to use (in our case, all three came off), attach the drives to the guide insuring the black plastic studs entered into each of the drives side screw holes, and slide the drive into the frame (there is a slight click when you have fully pushed the guide/drive into the frame). Mount the assembly to the computer and lastly hook up the DATA and POWER cables.We found it best to make a backup of the boot drive using a USB duplicator and to store it along with license information in a separate folder for each PC. We like to make backups of the boot drive at least twice a year or if there is a significant change. This item, the ICY DOCK TRIO saved us a lot of time and money. It's worth it. Ich habe ein relativ altes, aber hochwertiges, großes ATX Gehäuse. Leider konnte sich vor über 10 Jahren noch niemand vorstellen, dass man mal bei einem Desktop PC im großen Stil mit 2,5" Formfaktor Festplatten (bzw heute SSDs) hantieren müsste. Entsprechend hat mein Gehäuse dafür keine Einbauplätze vorgesehen. Was es aber hat sind 6 Plätze für 3,5" HDDs, mit properitären Plastikleisten, die zur schnellen Entnahme und zur Entkopllung der HDDs dienen. Diese Leisten passen aber nur perfekt auf die genormten, seitlichen Bohrungen einer 3,5" HDD.Versuche mit den billigen, metallenen Einbaurahmen (2,5" auf 3,5") schlugen alle fehl, da die entsprechenden Bohrungen entweder fehlten oder flasch plaziert waren.Dann bin ich auf dieses System gestoßen. Die Bohrungen entsprechen perfekt denen einer 3,5" HDD, sind allerdings minimal zu eng, wodurch man entweder die Schrauben von Hand einziehen muss, oder bei Steckverbindungen die Bohrungen etwas weiten muss. Die SSD wird dann einfach in den Adapter eingeschoben, bis der Klick Mechanismus verriegelt und dann der Einbaurahmen mit den aufgeschraubten Einschubleisten in den Einbauplatz geschoben. Perfekt.Angenehmer Nebeneffekt: die SSD sitz tief in dem Einbaurahmen. wodurch die SATA und Stromanschlüsse ca. 1cm tiefer liegen als bei einer 3,5" HDD. dadurch können zB auch SATA Kabel mit geraden statt abgewickelten Steckern genutzt werden.Nachteilig ist eigentlich nur, dass der gesamte Einbaurahmen reines Plastik ist. Wer also statt einer SSD eine 2,5" HDD nutzt, sollte auf eine einigermaßen passende Kühlung achten, da die wärme nicht wie bei Metall auf eine größere Fläche verteilt wird und die Luftzirkulation innerhalb des Rahmens nur schlecht wirken kann.Trotzdem: interessante und funktionale Lösung für alte Gehäuse (etwa auch von DELL, HP, Lenovo und anderen älteren Gehäusen von Komplettsystemen) wenn Aufrüstungen mit SSDs erfolgen sollen. Die Ingenieure von Icy Dock bekommen dafür von mir 4 von 5 Sternen.

This 3.5 " to 2.5" adapter makes it easy to install and remove SSD's in a standard HDD drive bay. The snap in feature is really useful and feels well built.
