I do not like my bread overly dark, hard and very crunchy. I use this toaster daily for english muffins and on the highest setting, 7, they come out lightly toasted and nicely hot. The ability to set a memory for your favorite breads is nice, but I had to go online and find the instructions for doing so, they didn't come with the toaster. Make sure you read them first and get comfortable with those directions, there is a timeliness to them that isn't obvious in the instructions. Now that I have it working, it is great, push the memory button and drop the bread and we are good to go.

Updated 8/24. Replacement toaster works great. Would give it 5 stars now..Updated 8/19. Cuisinart is shipping a replacement. Warranty process very easy, but they make you cut the power cord off and send a picture of the cut power cord, so now I will be without a toaster for a few weeks. I'll update again when I receive the new toaster. The toast lever has to be pushed down very hard (slammed down) in order for it to stay down so that the toaster starts. I'm worried it will fail over time. Will contact Cuisinart for replacement.

My conclusion: the perfect toaster doesn't exist. This toaster is good and it works well, its just that the fancy buttons (which they most likely thought would justify the price) don't work. When you use the single slice option, both wells light up. It doesn't toast evenly, one side gets toasted, the other side gets warmed up.However, the little digital screen is cool and it appears to work very well. And it looks fancy.I've given up looking after testing 5 toasters from $20 to $169, they're all the same.

I really like this toaster. For years, we’ve been using our Smart Oven (essentially a fancy toaster oven) as a toaster, but I finally gave in to convenience and got a toaster. I wanted something nicer than the bare-bones, super cheap model, but I didn’t need one of the expensive models that had 75 different options and toasting styles that’s I’d most likely never use. That’s unnecessary, complicated overkill. I did some research and I like that America’s Test Kitchen rated this model really high and said it toasted evenly. They were right! Whether I put in a bagel, simple sandwich bread, a banana, a pop-tart or more, everything comes out evenly toasted with no light spots or burnt edges. It has a nice group of choices for bread types or sweets (without going overboard) and I like the defrost button for frozen items. I haven’t found anything yet that toasted poorly with this toaster. I also like that I can do multiple toastings - one right after another - without it getting too hot or toasting unevenly. Since it’s only my husband and I in the household, I don’t need the large footprint of a 4 slice toaster, so it’s nice to know that when the grandkids come over, I can do multiple rounds of toasting without any issues. I love how fast the toaster works. I was used to the long waits of a toaster oven, but just about everything I’ve made gets done in 5 min or less. I also really like the fact that it was easy to figure out. I didn’t need any directions to start using it. Overall, it’s a great toaster at a reasonable price.

Update!In less than a year... this toaster quit working on one side! Heed this warning... - Quality Control is no longer in play at Cuisinart!Out of all the products that I have bought online... THIS is the worst ever. I ordered this toaster a couple of weeks ago. I felt confident that this would be a major upgrade to my bargain store toaster that I bought 4 years ago. Cuisinart has always been known for Quality, so that was the least of my worries with this purchase. WRONG! The toaster came in and I plugged it in to find several spots where the burner wires were not properly installed. This meant uneven cooking and browning. I tried it for a week and it just would not evenly cook. Several small areas of my waffles were not cooked safely. I said OK... there is always a few products that get through quality control and after all - this is Cuisinart! I contacted Amazon and they immediately sent out a New toaster to swap. Folks... this one was twice as bad as the first one. You can see in the photos, that after 1 - Defrost of the waffles(which had set on the counter for about 8 minutes - so they were NOT even frozen hard); 1 - Waffle cycle set on Darkness #5; and then ANOTHER cycle on Waffle Darkness #5... I got a waffle that was STILL not cooked safely. My $20 bargain store toaster does better. This has to be an entire batch. Getting 2 back to back ( I have to feel like they sold some in between my two deliveries)... I not only DON"T recommend this toaster, but now question the quality of the company's products. Stay away from this toaster!

Initially I thought the toaster was reasonable. I would toast on level 3, and it worked well. We’ve been using it more frequently lately and the toasting has become uneven and less effective.I wouldn’t buy this toaster again.

Toasts evenly. Accomodates thick and thin slices. Works as well as my old $20 toaster. Wife loves this one - it has push buttons and an LED screen.

We were unhappy with our previous toaster at half the price. We love this one.It has features galore. It has a setting for one slice which is invaluable forus "old toasters". You can choose white/grain, waffle, or english muffinsettings. We are very happy and it is worth the $50 price.

Well, it worked great for just over a year now it’s completely stopped. Don’t waste your $$$
