Great for a beginner!
Good information for those who want to use covered calls for extra income. If a person can resist being emotionally manipulated by market enthusiasm and take it slow, they can do well. I've been using covered calls for 4 months and am learning from my mistakes.

Good, reality based information.
I thought that this book was a good overview of Covered Calls and, had something for the beginner as well as experienced option trader. Good, common sense trading guidelines. And, the book was written very straight forward. However, I did find the charts to be very difficult to read. The printing was very light and even with my reading glasses on, I struggled to see this information. I think the book would be better if a printing effort was made improve the ability to see the charts.

I rethought my whole approach to options
I had traded options before back in the '90s , but concluded then that I could never beat the professionals as by the time you found out information and picked up the phone you had already missed it or been smashed. I concluded I was gambling rather than investing. However until I read this book I hadn't really rethought my approach. These days I am a long term investor with many holdings. This book opened my eyes to leveraging traded options on these long positions. I do have a couple of reservations in Chapter 5 the author talks about asymmetric risk. Translated this is the known fact that stocks spend most of their time doing very little but with occasional big moves. In the book the author illustrates the profits to be made assuming you continually write calls 12x per year. However this means that you would eventually get caught out by one of these swings and lose your long position (pretty much 100%). The author does cover a number of techniques both technical and practical in the following chapter to avoid this, but it makes the projected return s over optimistic. This is a minor quibble really. This is not a passive investing strategy very far from it: however it is well written and thorough strategy.

A must read for those interested in trading
When I decided to get into options, I bought a few books by different authors including this one. They were all good, but this one has really stood out. It explains the subject very thoroughly, yet in very simple language that is easily understood by a beginner as well as intermediate trader. After reading the book, I went on to buy every one of Freeman Publications books and have been reading them non stop. I'm down to the last one at this point. The amount of information I learned is incredible, especially given that the books themselves are not big. I feel like the way the information is presented is very dense, yet it covers a lot.One of the best features about the book is that it's actually easy and interesting to read. And how many technical books can you describe as "interesting" read?Great job by Freeman Publications! I will buy every book that they release going forward.Additionally, they provide a lot of useful information online as well as email me short daily blog read.I highly recommend this book and Freeman Publications as a whole.

Overall a great primer for beginners, despite a few flaws
I've been in the initial stages of educating myself about options trading and have decided that writing covered calls is the best entry-level strategy. After doing a ton of research across the internet, I wanted to find a source of information that had most of what I needed in one place. That's where this book comes in.Overall, it does a fantastic job at laying out some of the key concepts and strategies for engaging in and managing covered call writing. This book is not going to be the be-all end-all source that will give you every little piece of information needed, but it does do a great job of laying out and summarizing the key concepts, metrics, lessons, strategies, and tools that make for successful covered call writing, which helps to prompt specific things to research if you want to learn more about a specific concept in more detail. The authors do a great job of speaking in lay terms that are easy for novices to understand, and are clearly in the philosophical camp of sound and patient investing practices as opposed to so many people who try to sell you get-rich-quick schemes. My only complaint is that some of the chapters don't do as great a job as others at explaining the subject of the chapter. I found the chapter on tax implications to be particularly rushed and a bit confusing, as it had a couple of contradictions in it that made things difficult to understand. My other chief complaint is that the book has a small handful of typos scattered throughout it that need to be fixed with cleaner editing. The BIGGEST issue is that a few of the mathematical examples they provide for certain concepts have erroneous numbers in them, which really leads to serious confusion as you try to understand why the math doesn't add up.Despite that, I would still recommend this book for beginners as it really helps to isolate the key concepts you need to get started. The lack of clean editing and the few mathematical errors is why I docked it a star, but overall the book really does what it sets out to do. I've already ordered another one of their books and will likely order others.

An excellent introduction to covered calls
Many of us need to study covered calls from several authors/teachers because each explains the principles and strategies differently. Although most of what they say is the same, certain rules of thumb and philosophies are different. As a student, when you absorb the material that's the same and add all the different rules of thumb and nuanced philosophies offered by various authors, you start to see the big picture about covered calls. You begin to invest and trade more intelligently. You start to create your nuanced take on covered calls. This book is one of the readings and studies I believe is valuable and worth your time and effort. Here's an excerpt that will give an idea of the author's approach:A sample list of goals for a covered call writer would be:I will study 5 charts every weekday.I will always use the closest strike price to 0.4 delta.I will use a rules-based approach to exiting my trade.I will log every single trade in my trading journal.I will review my trades every week to see where I could improve.I will continue to paper trade while trading live to sharpen my sword. I will do this until I have at least 100 live trades under my belt.I wouldn't use any single book, course, website or YouTube video to learn how to write covered calls. I'd use several. Covered Calls for Beginners is one of them.
