Echo Dot (4th generation), Charcoal + Amazon Smart Plug, Works with Alexa - Smart Home Starter Kit

What a fantastic little bit of kit Alexa is! My son has one and suggested I buy one, I was a bit sceptical because I did not see the value in voice controlling anything. However, now we use it for all sorts of things, particularly playing music from DAB radio, via the internet because we get no signal, and our own choices from Amazon music. So easy, no hopping up and down to change a disk or adjust the volume, etc. Also, the sound quality is not bad for such a small thing. Its also great for checking the weather forecast, etc, etc, small tasks done via the internet. I know there are many other things we can use it for, but still on the learning curve. It's worth the price just as a smart music player!

I have resisted Alexa for a long time as I felt it would be obtrusive and always listening. The 4th generation Dot is small but delivers excellent sound quality for it's size. Easy to use, forgiving in terms of quality of your voice and fantastic replacement for my ageing DAB radio. I am sure that it will deliver hours of entertainment and fun.One comment a flashing green light popped up a few days after installation was hard to track down what it meant. Eventually discovered it was notification of a delivery due from Amazon. You need to ask Alexa what is the notification and then it goes away.

Love my Echo dots, have four of them and Alexa does everything I ask. Turns on lights, television, security lights etc, reminds me to do everything, fabulous when you e just had an opp and can’t do much. Great for people not very mobile and so easy to set up, even at 73.

Never had one of these before, I have 3 now dotted around house, works with kindle fire hd 8 2020.My husband who I though was going to hate it, interacts with Alexa.Good rich sound quality. Ask for music by a certain group/artist and it does. Play games. Ask about weather, recipes, and facts about most things. Control wifi lights/plugs...Sometimes you need to ask for something slowly so its clear to Alexa what you want.Just brilliant, our new best friend..

This device can be helpful...when she feels like it!I have a smart bulb in the bedroom and I like to change the colour of the light depending on my mood.Now its great that you can just speak and say alexa turn the bedroom light to blue but when you have to say the same thing 5 times for her to do it you might as well just get up and turn the light on or off yourself!She can be very frustrating and stressful at times when you ask her something and she either mishears you or just dosnt know the answer.She loves to say Im sorry dont know that one.When you ask her a maths question for example she can mishear and get the numbers wrong so you end up using your calculator on your phone or computer instead.If you have a stutter or speech impediment or like me and my wife start speaking then pause for 1 second as you try to remember what you want to say she is absolutely unforgiving and tries to give you an answer which is wrong because she didnt let you finish what you wanted to say.I have 6 hard drives plugged in to my computer all plugged into smart plugs so I can say alexa turn on hard drive 1 etc,I may say alexa turn the hallway light to blue...she turns all my hard drives on!Or worse off.So these kinda things can be frustrating,but to be fair Im used to her now and the majority of the time she gets things right.The amount of times I say her name in a day has aged me significantly from stress,I even had an anxiety attack once.I have this in the bedroom and sitting room,I also have a 5in echo show in both rooms.Dont get me started on those!...They are the dumb version of the echo dot I almost took a hammer to the one in the bedroom from frustration of it basically doing what it wanted or not responding.If your wifi signal is not good or it goes down none of these devices will work!I think the alexa devices are a good idea but they need to vastly improve especially the apps it can link to theres not much choice and most of them dont work.I wonder where this technology is going,maybe one day alexa will have a robot body that can physically help around the house.

I was a bit suspicious when i bought this as other people had sung me the praises of these Echo Dots. The trouble is that now I have come to rely on iy so much with asking it questions that when I am out driving around i go to ask Alexa a question even then. Would recommend buying one to anybody.

I use this primarily for music/radio but the kids do so much more,including homework questions ... my wife regularly sets timers for cooking and we control 6 smart plugs also from amazon.
