Our venerable van has had trouble with rotors warping. The last set which were "premium" lasted maybe 6 months and we do mostly highway driving. Not Noisy, works good
Changed the rear braking pads by myself a few weeks ago. So far I do not have any issues with them, They work as designed, no noise.

About sanding
Lots of people here are saying they needed to sand theirs down. I followed that advice until I learned that the real problem was siezed slide bolts. Sometimes you can bang them free, with pen oil and maybe heat and sometimes you just need to go to AZ and get a reman caliper. Check to make sure they slide properly, the boot is intact, and get some lube in there whenever you change your pads, to prevent rust problems.
