Update 9-12-22I have used this for more than a year now. We've had more scares and this has enabled me to check the critical points on our gas lines and have peace of mind. Sometime after purchasing this we also purchased an explosive gas monitor that plugged into an outlet and would go off sometimes when air freshener was sprayed and we didn't figure it out right away as I was never at home when it happened. (The wife didn't understand that aerosols use butane and other explosive gases for propellants). Also as the plug in monitor went bad, it also gave false alarms. This portable detector came in very handy to alleviate our fears during these situations. Excellent tool.Original Review Below:We live in an old house with gas and have had a couple of scares. This tool came in handy on our last one. The sensitivity adjustment may be a little hard to get right for some, but it detected properly.

I bought a gas stove and needed to install it myself. This was worth the money for the extra piece of mind to make sure my gas fittings were installed correctly.Was easy to use, and you can confirm its working by testing it on actual gas coming out of the stove. I also did a soap and water test as well of course.,

I read the reviews for this and many other detectors. If you need a specific and highly accurate detector, then you will need to pony up and spend BIG money to get the right tool. In reality, sensitivity and high accuracy in sensors costs money. But if you need a go-no go type of tool, then this might work for you. Understand that it is basically a hydrocarbon gas sensor. So, methane, propane, butane and even your dog’s farts will be detected. If you understand how this tool functions, then you can use it for checking your gas line installations for example. I used it for checking 200 feet of gas lines, I replaced in our home. You’ll need to make sure the room is aired out before you start. Adjust the sensitivity so it just barely buzzes in the aired out room, then begin your sweep. It will then act as a differential type of indicator. If it lights up and makes more noise, then you probably have a leak. Did not test outdoors, so don’t know how that would work

The media could not be loaded. There is this smell of gas near my house and I have called the utility, they did found something and dig a hole on the street and patch something. Every now and then I smell the same so i was curious about the tool the utility man brought. So I bought this and scan the area, couldn't find anything but decided to test it on my kitchen range. It just works, very sensitive (you can adjust that with a dial on the side) and even after closing the gas knob on the stove, as the smells dissipates, the tool is picking up the traces and alerting on them. Like that it will fing a leak but given enough time, like one minute it'll detect a "gas leak" in the fresh air.

Great product!

I bought this in May of 2022. Here it is November. I've used it maybe 5 times for a total of 10 minutes. Changed the batteries already since it said the batteries were low. Again, used it for 10 minutes. I ran a 30' length of gas line just this week. Turned it on and it sounded OK but the sensitivity dial, which usually goes off the higher you go even in clean air, would not go off with gas coming out of a gas valve!! I didn't need a leak tester to tell me there was a gas leak but the leak detector did not make a sound. No returns now. 6 months later. I cannot recommend this product. Spend the extra money to get American made. Let's stop screwing around with Chinese crap!

This item is very important to have in the house,i purchased it when my wife suspected that the oven had a leak,we bought this and got it the next day and i found the leak,It's very easy to use
