Simple Reading. Plain English Instructions.
There is nothing to dislike in this book. The book compares menu options from various manufacturers. It helps you remember the key factor of learning the different approaches in a menu change. Not Difficult, Just Different.Doug Ewing KF7BDD

Handy programming guide for handheld radios.
I purchased this book to have as a reference in my ham library as I have been called on from time to time for other hams. It does cover my primary handheld radios that I use, but there were some interesting omissions. It didn't have instructions for the ICOM IC-T81A (quad band/single band monitor) and the ICOM IC-Delta 1A (triband/triband monitor). I do realize it is difficult to publish instructions for all of the handhelds out there in one book. Still a good reference book. Thanks.

Very comprehensive coverage of all the latest and some legacy radios!
I love the photos of the radios. I like the fact that the information not just covers standard tasks like entering frequencies etc. into memory or VFO but also has the specifications. Great if you want to buy a radio at a swap meet or hamfest. It also has the "Weird Modes" that radios can get into and you need to get out of them! And finally the "Useful Information" is the icing on the cake.I have HTs from six manufacturers and I regularly have to dig out the manual from the file even at home to recall how to put in a new repeater or a change to the PL tone. I just leave the book out and grab it when in a jam! KT3A

Poor
Perhaps I didn’t read the description well enough but the book is of little use to me. I was expecting some"tricks of the trade", clever uses of my handheld or "why didn’t I think of that" tips. What I’ve got is a full book collection of very basic first page manual of many different radios, none of which I own ( I own 4) and if I did would have the owner’s manual for anyway. I would expect the book to be more fitting for a classroom instructor or club’s library. I expect to donate mine to same.

HH field guide
An excellent book for the beginning HAM operator.

COVERS MOST ANY RADIO THAT MATTERS AND MORE
Great quick reference guide. I have been a Ham operater for about three years now and do not activily participate that much. So for me it was easy just to purchase this upon recommendations from other operators as a quick easy reference to get back started at the Hoby. Easy to read and understand. I would recommend it to anybody picking up an unfamiliar radio and getting it up and operating in minutes.

Very useful guide to common features
I’ve only looked at the entries for the radios I own. The author has done a great job at picking a critical common subset of radio features to document. I didn’t see any APRS configuration info, and I think that would be a good update to a future edition. And, as a field guide, the book is fairly large and heavy. I’m unlikely to have it when I need it, although it would probably make sense to have it in a go kit. Ideally this book will be made available on Kindle or as a PDF for portable use.
