I know there are reviews on here talking about the tool being useless. It's not - it does It's job - but if you'd rather power tools or a ratchet, more power to ya! I have all, but still used the tool it came with.I've put another of these on a previous car, so was prepared to wrangle with it. I was pleasantly surprised this was was a piece of cake and far easier than the other brand I bought for a different car.Once you establish placement on your rail, unscrew the bolt on the crossbar for the bracket lip about 3/4 of an inch on both sides. Slide it on with a little push into place, then tighten a little to hold its spot. Go to the other side and angle forward or back, then push the other one onto the bar and slide it back to line up with the other side. Tighten down firm, the tighten the underside bolts for the one that moves. Put your caps on and lock. Then do the same for the rear one.All in all, it took me about 15 minutes to install, with the tool provided.Looks great, feels firm. Should hold my basket or kayak supports just fine.

the end product is very rugged and looks great after install. I will mention that there are a couple things that can be done to truly secure a long-term install. First of all, this would be adding blue Loctite 242 to each and every screw that is inserted. That means you have to take apart and then re-insert every screw. The Allen wrench that comes with the kit is basically useless. Get yourself an electric drill with hex adapter and install them correctly and tight. Then in order to secure the lengthening bolts correctly after applying the blue lock tight, really get in there with a ratcheting Allen torque head and tighten bolts. knowing that my daughter will be driving the vehicle across country and may secure a luggage carrier to the top, it’s important for me to know that she’s going to be able to re-tighten those lengthening bolts and anything that might come loose overtime. So I put a kit together for her to put in the glove box including the tools that she needs to tighten everything on the road and more blue Loctite 242.

I have now had these installed for 4 months, used them a few times. Here are my findings:1st- Installation was a bit tricky, in the angles of getting things on there (I felt like I had to monkey around to reach the roof and get these tightened). If you have a mirror, put it in front of your hand so that you can see where to line up the holes.2nd- The height of these is perfect. It allows my sunroof to open fully and to tilt, while having the brackets loaded. It may look a bit extreme or taller, but Id rather be safe, than have a broken sunroof!3rd- So far there is no weathering or fading of the material. A win in my book. PLUS, no damage for car washes.

They click right in and seem sturdy. You will get wind noise under 60 mph with them.
