Works as advertised. Good for drone fishing.
This fits perfectly around my DJI Mavic Air 2 drone. It triggers from the light at the bottom of the drone that you can turn on from the drone remote control. The drone can easily carry a 1 pound weight or more. Highly recommended for drone fishing where you can cast your line much further than you could otherwise.

Worked flawlessly every time so far!
Purchased to hang holiday lights in high-up trees, and 2 years after purchasing I finally tried it out.- Easy to install- Bonus: The extended legs are super-handy even when not using this drop mechanism.. makes launching on grass much safer/simpler- It only came with two tiny slip rings to attach your payload. For my use, I took an old wire hanger and made hooks on each end (more like a closed eyelet on the drone-side). Hooked it onto my lights and flew it up beyond my tree top -- after lowering the solar unit I began circling the tree descending closer as I went around.. once pretty close to the tree I released it as directed (light toggle via DJI remote) and it instantly dropped the hanger and all went well!OK.. so I had to repeat this 2 more times since the lights kept partially falling in different ways in strong winds, but we eventually got it!This unit worked perfectly. The Air2s had no issues with the payload (https://a.co/d/exGneQm) which was a 144' strand of 400 LED lights with solar panel, weighing 14.4 oz (according to Amazon info)

BETTER THAN EXPECTED / AN HONEST REVIEW
I was skeptical at first. I was deciding between this and the Gannet Sport X. This is $36 and the Gannet is $179. My concern was the weight of the product, in the specs it states it is about 90 grams, I weighed it at home and it comes in at 65 grams. The rest of the weight is the Legs that comes with the product. I don't even use the legs with my Air 2S, it takes off and lands just fine without the legs. The Gannet is rated at 60 grams, but it's also $179. I tried this out and the build quality is good enough. I know it can only be made with some form of plastic due to keeping the weight down. The drone flies great with this drop system by itself. I put an egg on a string and flew it about a mile to egg a car at night, It worked great. The battery indicator did take a hit with payload, but that is to be expected.I like this product because it is one piece, no need to attach an additional light sensor to the bottom of the drone with velcro or rubber bands. The locking mechanism works very well. It is very secure. I know the earlier models had problems with depressing the battery release buttons, but this version has indentations that forms around those release buttons. So no errors at all. This should work well with dropping fishing lures out to sea far from your casting range. As long as you keep the payload weight to what your drone can support consistently then you should not have a problem.

works good but is inconsistent opening. sometimes have to turn the light on and off then back on to get it to release,.

Very useful item that is also a lot of fun
Fits the Mavic Air 2 perfectly, although the landing gear extensions are a little tricky to get right (read the instructions!). Battery life not an issue, not like I fly with it on the drone all the time. I use it to get lines into treetops, either for installing radio antennas or for winching the trees over when cutting them. I use a small bag with either arborist throw line or mason line, clip a weighted tennis ball or small bag of sand (~4-6 ounces) on the end, clip the weight to the device, and away you go. I use very large fishing swivels on the end of the line, very easy to clip onto the payload and works well with the release pin on the device. I usually launch about 50 feet in front of the target tree, go 30-50 feet higher than the top of the tree, then fly forward and down a little until I'm in position. I try to "drape" the line over the tree, rather than just drag it across and risk pulling the drone down. Use the camera pointing straight down, gives pretty good accuracy. I've tried all kinds of methods for this process, and this device has worked the first time, every time. Wish I had bought it sooner.

Best Payload dropper for the Price.
It has a simple mechanism but is made of quality materials and can hold as much as your drone and take off with! It is very strong and simple to put on with the guide peg. The only downfall is the light is inoperable when in use because it is used to single the Payload dropper to open or close. It uses a photo light sensor to detect if the light is on or off, and whether the light is on or off when you turn the payload on detrimes the home position(CLOSED). So if the LIGHT ON when the PAYLOAD TURNED ON then home position(CLOSED) is LIGHT ON and LIGHT OFF is away(OPEN) and vice versa for LIGHT OFF when PAYLOAD TURNED ON becomes home position(Closed) and LIGHT ON becomes away(OPEN). BE AWARE OF YOUR DORNE LIGHTS POSITION WHEN TURNING ON THE PAYLOAD, YOU MAY DROP THINGS OTHERWISE, ALSO BE SURE THAT AUTO IS OFF AS IT WILL TURN THE LIGHT ON WHEN LANDING!

I think it's going to work perfect!
I bought the release to use for drone fishing which is carrying bait to a far distance and dropping it (much farther than you're able to cast). Although I haven't used it yet I did a test in the yard and it worked exactly as I wanted. My Air 2S carried a 2 oz egg sinker (tied to a loop on some braided line off of a free spooling spinning reel). It carried this egg sinker about 200 yards in maybe 10 seconds... one click on the fn button and the line was dropped and I brought the drone back. This is going to a be a game changer for our salt water fishing trip next week while trying to catch Tuna that are schooling. The biggest trick is going to be bring the drone back to the boat as the "home" function doesn't work too great for a drifting boat. All manual flying.
