Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications

I have a preference for physical copies of books because I like to write notes in them. The paper is really thin so I would strongly advise not to use a highlighter. If you use gel pens to write in the book, give the ink some time to dry otherwise it will smear. Beyond that, all the pages are there(I've bought other books with pages duplicated or missing before). There are solutions to odd numbered problems in the back with verbose solutions where appropriate. There is also an index to quickly lookup the first mentioning and definition of important concepts. All-in-all, it appears to be a well-constructed book that will hopefully last a long time.edit : I had some concerns about the thickness of the paper and having a highlighter bleed through the paper. That is not the case. You can use a highlighter without any problems. I do use a paper towel do dab excess highlighter ink off after 10-15 seconds. I did notice that there were a few errors in the book. Unfortunately, the website mentioned in the book to report errata does not contain a link to report errata.

There is no universe in which my brain fits after using this textbook.

Dispite occasional difficulty in understanding the book, partly due to format, it turned out to be an excellent resource to delve fairly deeply into the subject for an actual understanding of the topic. (Rather than superficial understanding)If you struggle with the topic use some online videos then try rereading it for a better understanding. Practice problems are absolutely necessary. Do them there are lots you can choose from.Be aware there are simpler problems requiring basic math knowledge (pre-algebra) to more advanced ones through each subject math area up to calculus. It is accessible (mostly) no matter where you stand in mathmatics. (Though you will get the most out of the book with a better foundation)

The exact book I needed for my course. I can’t compare it to other textbooks on this topic, because it’s the only discrete math course I’ve taken. Some subjects seem a bit complicated, but I’m not sure if that’s how the book is explaining it, or the topic itself. My instructor seems to be able to properly decipher these difficult areas for us.

The book is really great! It covers a lot of topics and contains really large number of exercises with answers for odd ones.

This is a classic text in discrete mathematics. It has grown since previous editions and now contains more material than can be covered in a single course.

Don't be fooled by this listing. This IS the international edition of the textbook. If that is not a problem for you, I recommend you search for and buy the international edition, because it is about the same price as what this listing charges for a rental.

He adquirido la versión electrónica. Es un muy útil manual de la materia, con un tratamiento de las cuestiones riguroso y claro. Se encuentra a faltar una mejor 'integración' del contenido, esto es, por ejemplo, que cuando se remite a otros apartados o ejercicios se pudiera hacer con un 'hipervínculo'. Por lo demás ¿por qué en este tipo de manuales no se incluyen la resolución a TODOS LOS EJERCICIOS? O no se permite que se adquieran aparte...

Overall approach to explaining some complex concepts I found interesting. So when I read in the Preface that “The concept of homomorphic encryption and its importance to cloud computing is now covered.” I expected there would be something more than one page of definitions of a couple of basic concepts, that one can easily find within minutes on the Internet.
