Good but expensive
This is a nice product and does what it is meant to do: elevate your notebook. It does that and is adjustable so you can, for example, match the height of a second display. The cord organizer is nice, but on my Sony, all the ports and connections are on the side, so it's still a little awkward and cumbersome, but better to have than not. It comes with some little rubber feet and grommets, however I haven't bothered to use them. My laptop is 13" so it's footprint is very small on the riser and in no danger of falling or sliding off. The cutouts and design of the top are nice to allow for airflow, etc., so it doesn't contribute to excessive heat or fan use. I don't use the "shelves" they include because I don't have room and don't have a need for them, but that's a nice additional piece of stuff they include.I originally thought this would be great to not only elevate my notebook, but to also allow for more deskspace surface to put my mouse and keyboard. But because the unit has a base, obviously, it's footprint takes up most of the same space as my notebook did originally. Meaning, my keyboard sits against the base of the unit, instead of against the front of my notebook, but the amount of desk real estate eaten up is the same. Seems obvious now, so not sure what i was thinking. However, the second reason I bought it was to get my notebook screen on a level equal to the 25" monitor I have connected to my notebook. And with the adjustable risers, it's perfect. The risers are a little difficult to get out (at least one of mine was a little stuck, and required some force to get it out), so you probably don't want to have to keep adjusting them repeatedly or frequently. If you require or want something that is a simple, one-hand, flip-a-lever type adjustment, this is NOT it. It also doesn't have infinite locking points, it's pretty much just 4 or 5 heights, maybe a half inch or so increments (i could be wrong about the exact heights of each adjustment level, I'm just guessing based on memory). So, again just keep that in mind because if you require a lot of flexibility and ease of use in terms of adjustments, this may not work for you and my final point below may become more relevant. It's all good, but I considered knocking off one star because it's plastic and just seems like it's really expensive for what it is. I got it for $24 on a gold box deal, and i felt that was high. It may not be fair to knock off a star for that, so I debated before doing it, and no one forced me to buy it, i willingly paid the price. All that considered, I decided there's nothing wrong with the product, it's well designed and they didn't trick me or otherwise coerce me into buying it. But if you are like me a little bit, and have some arbitrary value-levels and quality parameters in your head, you may feel that north of $20 is awfully pricey for a piece of plastic. Maybe if it had more adjustability, or was engineered in a cool way that made it look more like art or something like that, I could justify a premium. But it does what it should, and it doesn't have any defects or problems for what I need, so I stuck with 5-stars.

Wonderful product from a wonderful company (3M)
Before I ordered this item for personal use, I had already been using this at work for about a month. It has been a boon for my stressed neck muscles. I have a Toshiba M35 15.4" wide-screen laptop at home and a Compaq nc6000 at work. While it fits just perfectly with both the laptops, there is a slight overhang (approx 1" on one side) when used with the Toshiba laptop. This can be an irritant if you would want to attach the mounting bracket for the document holder (which I would expect to be included with the product, not sold as an extra). You get the mounting bracket, but not the document holder!!The good news is that the product is very very flexible (with multiple height settings) and very laptop-friendly (with vents in the base. This is better than putting your laptop on a flat surface.) Both of my laptops run a lot cooler! The detachable shelves (2 in number) are handy, but one would work just fine. 3M should replace the other one with the document holder. If you use a wireless mouse, you can put the base on it, or just a little trinket. Finally, for just $23, you cannot beat this laptop riser. I have always admired 3M and this wonderful product hasn't dimmed my admiration for them. This is the best, affordable, and cool-looking laptop riser.

Strong, Stable, Economical Shelf That Gets The Job Done Beautifully
It's not the prettiest and it may not have all the bells and whistles of other risers, but this thing does exactly what I need it to do - hold my laptop at eye level so my neck, shoulders, and arms don't hurt while I work - and it does this while keeping my computer running cooler than it would otherwise, sitting on the desk. Add to this that (1) it has a great little storage area where I can store my wireless keyboard as well as a notepad, and (2) it has two side-shelves (or wings) where I park my wireless mouse and phone, leaving me even more free desktop space, and I am as happy as a bug in a rug with this thing. And that's before considering the very reasonable price and the free shipping. I really, really like this thing and if you are looking for a strong, stable, economical shelf to hold your laptop atop your desk, then I highly recommend you purchase this product.

Does the job
I bought this 3M laptop stand and a mesh Rolodex monitor stand Rolodex 82412 Wire Mesh Large Monitor Stand, 18 7/16w x 14 3/8d x 4 11/16hat the same time to see which one would work better to elevate and cool a Dell Latitude D630 laptop (14in widescreen) with docking station attached. The Rolodex has a nice cooling mesh top, looks nicer, and has a drawer underneath for storage, but the build quality sucked, and its not height adjustable (luckily its height is perfect for my application). There also is not a convenient size of the Rolodex stand (4-5 sizes in slightly different configurations/intended purposes), and to fit my laptop, I ended up with one that is larger than the laptop and takes up a lot of desk space. The 3M stand on the other hand is the exact same size as my laptop with docking station, so it takes up much less space. So far it seems to cool just as well as the Rolodex, and it adjusts to the same height as the Rolodex (although I wish the adjustment process was easier; I have to take everything off the stand and use a bit of force to take it apart and adjust it). I don't use the included shelves because I have an external mouse, keyboard, monitor attached and the laptop just sits to the side as a second monitor, but I have to agree that they seem pretty cheaply made and will probably break off easily if used. I also agree that the stand is a bit pricey for what it is, but its a much better buy than the Rolodex stand. I wish the bottom of the stand was solid plastic to make it a more convenient storage area, but I can overlook that because it fits my workspace so much better. To sum it up, the 3M stand is currently holding my laptop and the Rolodex is on the far side of my cubicle with papers and misc junk stacked on top of it. Need I say more?
