This really is the best book for beginners and it's a such a fast and fun way to learn the language. I have bought so many of these books for friends, and my private students (the French and Spanish versions too), and they have all found them very helpful and not too heavy going. Everyone learns better with pictures and the ones in the book are amusing and informative. There are so many other books to choose from but this one is by far the best for immediate self learning. Suitable for any age from 4 up to 84!! It really is. If you just want to learn a smattering of German then this is the book to buy. It will teach you so much in such a short space of time and you can prepare yourself to immerse yourself into the German culture and make good acquaintances right away. Always important to make a good impression in a country you are visiting, and to learn common courtesies :o)

Not only was my book clean and new unlike another reviewer here, the book is simple and super useful for absolute beginners. It's not a giant intimidating tome that no one will ever get through. And while only 48 pages, it puts every page to good use with helpful graphics, cartoons and summaries of certain themes. It presents enough simple, straightforward phrases that anyone can learn before their trip to a German-speaking country. I found this much more useful for family members looking to learn some basic phrases before a trip than the extensive and massive and often boring books on German words and grammar. Definitely for beginners. And definitely worth the modest price.

This is a perfect book to use as an introduction into the German language. Very easy to use, informative, well organized and entertaining. Great for all ages. One could even use this book to create your own practice sheets to write basic sentences. It teaches basic vocabulary, important phrases and beginner grammar.

While this book was probably intended for kids and teens, it works well for adults, too. As a tutor of German and Spanish (they have the same book in Spanish), I find that my beginning students of all ages enjoy these brightly colored, amusing illustrations and the simple, practical text. A complete beginner can stick with the text as printed. With the help of a tutor, a somewhat more advanced student can discuss the situations pictured, the names of the many objects on each page, his or her own activities, and more. The audio CD is a great addition. To sum up: This book is a very fun introduction to a complex language.

Wonderful book! I already know some German and I bought this to teach my kids before they went to DE for the summer. I love how the pictures went with the dialogue, making it easier for my kids to understand (and when to use) the language. It also helped refresh some of the German I’ve forgotten since I’ve last spoke it! I recommend this book to both novice and anyone needing a basic refresher!

This book is geared for the entry level person regardless of age. It teaches generally used phrases in the German language for the first time visitor. A good book to keep with you on your travels thru Germany.

It's a gift for my brother since he wants to learn German, looks like it'll teach him the basics. Only problem was that I guess I thought I had bought a new book and not a used one... uh i mean I should've expected the quality since the seller is "Thriftbooks" Um I mean the pages are kinda stale and the spine is kinda torn and there's some random writing in it. I'm not too upset I'm just worried what my brother is gonna think about it. But it arrived on time so that's pretty good!

While I was struggling with declension, I could learn some basics with visual aids as a child would.

This is the 4 th time I’ve tried to learn German. It is so difficult but I’m actually making a bit of progress. This book is really meant for Junior school children but as a pensioner it is right for my level.

This book was everything we had hoped for and it came quickly with no damage. Great book for beginners as advertised.
