The Gaming Overload Workbook: A Teen's Guide to Balancing Screen Time, Video Games, and Real Life

Randy Kulman knows teenagers!
Technology. Teens tend to love it, parents tend to hate it, and it probably causes more arguments and upsets than any other single topic. That's where Randy Kulman's workbook comes in. Without judging or shaming, he guides teens to think consciously about how they want to use technology, without any annoying interference from their parents. Not every teen will be ready to use this workbook, but if yours is open to a conversation (and maybe secretly thinks they could use some help), this workbook will let them guide themselves to a healthier relationship with technology. Step out of leading the "tech" conversation, and let your teen take charge of their (tech) life.

Finally a book that sees the good in game play
I found this to be a very insightful and helpful workbook, demonstrating how we, as educators and/or parents, can better understand and guide video game usage of students/children. I don't feel like I just need to say no to video games as much as rethink how I set limitations and rules around them. This is the kind of book you want to come back to again and again for reference, it has earned its place on my bookshelf and then some!

Practical, readable, authoritative
Dr. Kulman’s book is a practical, readable and authoritative resource that is accessible for clinicians, parents and teens alike. As a practicing pediatrician, it has been invaluable to me in terms of a) my own, personal understanding of what constitutes a healthy integration of electronics/gaming, b) my ability to counsel patients and parents on healthy well-rounded play, and c) having a reference to offer that people will actually use - a home guidebook that provides a "nuts and bolts" structure that is imperative for real world success.I couldn’t recommend it more highly.Roger Mennillo, MD, FAAP, Assistant Clinical Professor of Medical Science, Alpert Medical School of Brown University

A Useful Resource
Having experienced gaming addiction in the family, I recognize the wisdom and practicality of this workbook. Children as well as their parents, who have become either a little or a lot too consumed with gaming, can learn practical strategies for making these interests more constructive. Incorporates insights from addiction medicine into gaming, while avoiding stigmatizing those who over-use gaming. Some insights into the benefits of organic farming were un unexpected bonus.

Helped to connect to my grandson. Thrilled.
I got his book for my grandson who loves video games and always seems to be in front of a screen. This book gave me some insights into how to speak with him about his love of gaming. It helped us to have a conversation about what he enjoys about game playing and opened up a new line of communication.
