Excellent desktop piece of tech! Heat distribution is contained pretty much to the unit and burner.
There's nothing bad that I can say about this unit actually the thing works like it's advertised and the heat distribution is contained to the unit and barely is above room temperature 4 inches away from the cook plate or surfaces and you can totally use this on your office desk to boil water cook food thing is great I cannot brag enough about this unit great job excellent unit just saying guys and I'm not just trying to promote a product here what I'm trying to tell you if you're going to pick up what I'm putting down here this is the best electric burner I have ever had! Follow the directions and safety protocols but the cord doesn't get hot like this is the perfect unit for me and when I'm in the man cave I can just have this sitting here on my desk and I can boil water make coffee tea macaroni and cheese cook steaks anything right on this burner and I'm not worried about it causing fire or anything like that but just keep the cord unplugged when you're not using it cuz that's in the safety instructions. But the way they designed this unit and whatever they did to make this thing work the way it does it's great and I'm going to order several more of these just to have his back up So eventually when this one quits I'll still have a continuous Supply well into my '80s. Get your hands on this device.I wanted to add a little bit more now that I've been using it for quite a while it really is an excellent little burner and the heat is contained within a small area so I even have it underneath a plastic table top about 18 in and the heat doesn't do anything even warm the plastic and as for the sides of it the heat only extends about 3 inches away and it's not intense I can hold my hand about an inch and a half away from it for about 20 seconds before it gets a little too hot but yet the thing will boil water. It's really a great device I recommend it highly!

Works great!
This hot plate works great for making coffee in a 3 cup moka pot. It heats up fast and brews coffee in a couple of minutes. The first time I turned it to 5 to make moka pot coffee. That was too high. I think turning the control to 3-4 will brew moka pot coffee the best. When I first got the hot plate it smelled like mothballs when I opened the box. I did like the instructions said and took it outside, plugged it in, and turned it up to 5 for 15 minutes. It burned off the smell. Now it works fine with no odor.

Apparently designed for heavy use, which is odd, since it's so tiny.
Does its job. Takes up next to no space.

Really hot, really quick!
It was overheating my small generator due to the surge, but I tried using a power strip between the generator and the cooktop and it works great! I think it will be perfect for small pots or my 6 inch cast iron skillet if there was an emergency

Oh! This'll work nicely.
It's SMALL but MIGHTY. Heats up pretty fast but it will surge above 700 watts at first then it'll drop to a little above 550. It never dropped to 500. It smells really bad when you use it the first time but that's normal. Just let it run on high for 15 minutes outside and it'll go away. I got a full rolling boil with 12oz of water in about 4 minutes on high.

The smell is unbearable.
The smell of this heating up will drive you out of your house. I ordered the product, followed the instructions to let it out gas in a well ventilated area. The burner kept clicking on and off and would take almost 20 minutes for a cup of water to boil. I requested a replacement only and it was sent to me. The replacement had to initially be turned on in a ventilated area due to the off gassing as well and after daily usage the smell went away. The clicks on and off continued to happen but less frequently. I stopped using it for a month or so and went back to turn it on and the out gassing processes had to be repeated. The smell this burner puts out will run you out of your house.

Helps me make a perfect cup of coffee
I am a coffee pour over guy and I like my coffee hot. So whether I'm using a carafe like Chemex or directly in to a cup, I need something to keep the cup or carafe warm during the brewing process. I had the welltop Coffee Mug Warmer that did a good job, but it was made of plastic and fell apart after couple of years.I tried other mug warmers but despite the claims of 170 or 197 degree heat, they do not keep the coffee warm enough for me. By the time I finish brew,, the coffee is luke warm. The Artilife is awesome. It is well made gets the job done.. It has heat selections from 1 to 5. All I need less than 1. I heat water in a cup until it reaches about 160 degrees, then I pour out the water and start my pour over brew. I add water that has reached about 205 degrees over the coffee grinds and when I'm done, the coffee is at about 175 to 180 degrees. By the time I add cream and sugar, the coffee temperature drops about 15 or 20 degrees and is hot enough for me.I realize that some people may think that a cup of coffee that is 160 degrees is too hot, but that's how I like it.

The mate for Mika pot/
For my moka pot brewing, fantastic for the fine brew/espresso alternative. A truly great method, drip, pour over are extinct.
