Good tracking headphone but, not very musical.
If you need a headphone for only listening to music, try the regular DT-770s, these are not intended for enjoying music. They sound bad, the bass is virtually non-existent, just enough to hear the kick when playing. The highs are rolled off to prevent ear fatigue from cymbals and hi-hats, they sound a bit muddy and muffled. With that said, these make great cans for tracking loud instruments such as electric guitars and drums. They isolate enough noise to hear the track, but let in enough noise to bleed through, so you can hear your instrument. Great for just practicing too, allows me to play my guitar and drums at loud volumes for extended periods without causing fatigue to my ears. I don't really like these for mixing, they have close sound stage, and the frequency response is bad, so the mix ends up sounding completely off. Also these are built like a tank, they feel sturdy, but they are still pretty comfortable. I have the regular DT-770/80, they have decent isolation, maybe about 2/3 as much as the DT-770M, they are much better for general listening to music, these are more of a tool for the studio and home recording.

These are some of the best headphones I have ever owned
Okay, this is going to sound like I'm selling these headphones or I have stock in the company but I don't. I intentionally waited a few months before writing this up so I would have an opportunity to see how well they hold up. I bought them thinking they were more money than I wanted to spend but what the heck. I have them plugged into a sound board which connects to my iPod and to drum mics. From the very first time I played them with these headphones I was OMG! I was stunned.I have had numerous over-the-ears headsets and earplug headsets the past 10 years and they all have contributed to hearing loss in one way or another. Nothing ever balanced right and I had to keep the volume up to overcome the ambient sound of the drums. These headphones darn near eliminate the ambient drum sound which allows me to operate them at a very low volume and still distinctly hear both the music and the drums without the ambient drum noise masking them both. My Beyerdynamic DT-770s are every bit as good as my high end Bose over-the-ear headphones I use on long international flights. They do different things, of course, but in terms of overall quality and effectiveness at what they do, I'd rate them equal. If these headphone were hanging in a music store and I had a chance to play drums wearing them, I'd easily have been willing to pay double what they cost. To say I'm pleased would be a gross understatement and while they're a bit bulky that's precisely why they are extremely comfortable to wear. The Beyerdynamic DT-770-M-80 headphones as good as any headsets I have ever owned including my Bose.

Just Enough Isolation. Ok Sound Performance...
Hello Amazon!I have had the Beyerdynamic DT 770 M headphones for about 3 months now, and I have had a chance to use them while both drumming and listening to music from my iPod.Starting off with Build Quality:The headband is all metal wrapped by black pleather. Cushioning is soft and comfortable, however the material is somewhat thin. Fortunately the pleather wrapping is removable and can be easily replaced. Headphone size is easily adjustable and can fit any size head. Clamping pressure is strong but necessary for isolating noise. One note on size; these headphones are not collapsable, however they fit well in the included zippered carrying case. The cones are attached by strong metal forks extending from the headband and the cones are made of hard plastic. The DT 770 M's are built to last. The cord has ample length and can fit a screwable sound board adapter. An inline volume slider on the cord is a nice touch to allow on-the-fly volume adjustment.Sound Quality:This is really the only aspect of the DT 770 M's that I was disappointed about. The mids and treble are there, but the bass is almost non-existant. It is easily understandable why this would be, since there is no cone ventilation to allow the drivers to move. This is not a big issue though, since as a drummer, all you really need to hear is the accompanying band. Too much bass in these headphones would make it difficult to discern what you are playing on the drumset, and what the band is playing. In all reality, I love these headphones for their isolation, not their sound quality.Isolation:The real purpose behind Beyerdynamic producing these headphones. Beyerdynamic has done a masterful job in striking a balance in noise isolation that is perfect for a drummer. When drumming, I can easily hear what I am playing, without having to turn up the volume of the surrounding band. It is as if you are wearing the best ear muffs available, and having audio drivers placed in the cones. Perfect for drummers. One note on the ear pads: the pleather gets sweaty very quickly. This is not so bad however, since the sweat actually makes the pads seal to your head, providing even more isolation. It sounds gross, but it actually works.Verdict:These headphones are meant for drummers, not for daily music entertainment. You would be horribly dissatisfied listening to these through an iPod for casual listening. Think of the sound through this example: Mids and treble to be like the Audio Technica ATH-M50's, with little bass. If you are a drummer, you should not waste your money on any other headphone. These will make you happy for what they were designed to do; isolate sound and provide additional band audio. They are worth the $200.Summary: Beyerdynamic DT 770 M HeadphonesPros:Isolation is Just Right for DrummersTank Build QualityHandy In-line Volume SliderComfortCord Length (long)Mids and TrebleCarrying CaseCons:Overall Sound QualityBassRecommendation: For Drummers only. Online research showed these Beyerdynamic headphones to be very superior to many other brands
I purchased these headphones (for drumming) because my Vic Firth ones had stopped working. Online research showed these Beyerdynamic headphones to be very superior to many other brands. Many drummers had recommended them. However, the Vic Firth headphones still hug your ears more snug for better noise isolation. I can't quite hear the beat and the bass as well as with the VF. I'm kind of disappointed I spent the money on these. If you're a drummer and you're looking for headphones for noise isolation and to hear a crisp clear sounding beat, either purchase Vic Firths or in my drum instructors studio the Audio-Technica's.

Good headphone for drummers
The sound isolation is excellent, and the clamping force is stronger than most other headsets I've used, so it stays in the place relatively well even during an intense session. The cushion is thick enough that it's fairly comfortable despite the high clamping force. The cable is plenty long to let me move around as much as I want. The included 1/4" adapter screws onto the plug and feels very sturdy.

Good external sound suppression.
Comfortable to wear for long periodsAbout 90% external noise suppression, I would estimate, is achieved with the 'over-ear' cupsSturdy build, and well designed cable headphones

Soldi spesi davvero bene.
