The book contains hundreds of charts encompassing loads of different chart types.The book has been well organised into different sections. You can either read cover to cover or just find the specific type of chart you are looking for e.g time, qualitative, geostationary etc.On top of displaying interesting charts, it also describes how to choose between each one for your data as well as best practices and design tips.100% I would recommend as a companion guide to chart selection and design.

As the world around us becomes more data-driven and data-led this is the perfect book to help you navigate data, understand data and more importantly communicate with data, this is the book for you. From basic data principles to insights, from gestalt theory to colour palettes, from stroke thickness to tables, it has it all! It also answers one of humankind's oldest question, should it be a map? You'll have to pick up a copy and head to page 231. Also makes a great stocking stuffer for the data enthusiast in your family. If you're reading this review, you're probably that person... so, hit add to basket and treat yourself! You won't regret it.

I like this book but as with the past few books I've bought from Amazon they come damaged. This book was a bit bashed at top left of front cover and top right (slightly) on back cover. If I pay for a brand new book I want it in pristine condition, I can go into a book shop and choose the book that's in brand spanking new condition. The book itself is very informative and has some really nice examples but some examples are far too small and you can't (well I can't) view the image/read is accompanying text. I'm not sure there is any point in adding information that's hard to read, especially in a book named 'Better Data Visualisations'.

So disappointed. Was looking forward to having this as an excellent reference. It sadly upon opening the book, the first chapter fell out. It’s not been bound correctly. Read the other reviews and don’t buy this book from here.

When I purchase a book for Kindle, I expect it to be readable on a Kindle. The kindle edition of this book is not in fact compatible with my kindle device (new paperwhite).

The book is of a very bad quality, all pages are falling out.

This is a fantastic book that I assign as supplement to my econometric course. The text is clear and direct, with great guidance for best practices on how to create beautiful and engaging figures for data analysis.What I like most about the text is that unlike many data viz books, it focuses on concrete features of data visualization that can immediately improve presentation, rather than leaving aesthetic decisions up to the reader. As someone who is not particularly artistic, it was very helpful to see what dimensions are most important to focus on -- I will not necessarily be creating pictures on the NYTimes homepage, but I can make far better figures than I used to.

Better Data Visualizations is a great reference for any data focused individual. Jon does a great job of breaking down the where, when, why, and how of modern visualization. A highly recommended read for those looking to increase their knowledge on these topics.
