The Hamlyn Concise Guide to Axis Aircraft of World War II: The Warplanes of Germany, Italy and Japan During World War II

Excellent overview on Axis aircraft.
Mondey covers a wide variety of Axis aircraft with excellent illustrations, photos and detailed synopsis of the major types. He also covers many lesser know types as well. Certainly an excellent reference for the student of WW II. I have other books on WW II aircraft, but Mondey offers nicely detailed descriptions of each type and the roles, short comings and positive attributes each plane encompassed. He has some pithy comments too, such as his comment on the Mitsubishi G4M Betty in the later half of the war, going from "a potent bomber into a useless flaming torch" which was certainly the case due to lack of armour, defensive armament and a lack of self-sealing fuel tanks. It is a worthwhile addition to anyone's WW II library of books.

Found it interesting
I bought this originally to serve as a reference for scale modeling but once I started flipping through it i ended up finding it an interesting read. Most books I use as references typically include just pictures and specifications. This book went so much further by providing a thorough analysis of most Axis aircraft. I think anyone remotely interested in aeronautic history would enjoy it - and with prices starting at $.96 on Amazon you can't go wrong.

More a work of art than informational
The book is NOT for someone like me, whose primary interest is the technical aspects of aircraft.Having said that, there are some BEAUTIFUL artist’s plates, showing various squadron markings. This would be a scale modeler’s dream.

Good things can come in small packages Part 2
If I had to have only one book to cover all of German, Italian, Japanese WW2 aviation, this would be it. Although small in size (10x6")it manages to cover over 140 aircraft built by the Axis in WW2. Planes from trainers to massive bombers, prototypes that never flew to famous aircraft such as the Me-109, FW -190, Me-262, Zero, Betty, you name it, it is here. Short historys of the planes, data and statistics for each, color illustrations for the majority of them, this book is a great reference. When in print, it was a bargin at $13.00.A very handy reference tool, I have used this book many times when in search of a quick fact without delving into a more comprehensive study. It can be used by modelers, although the color illustrations are small and can be limited. I definately recommend this book to all aviation fans

Clean up
Like the book, but could have cleaned it up a bit, cover little dirty, just need a wipe over, I know it's second hand, still a very good book
