UniFlameC-1533, 24 in. Cast Iron Fireplace Log Grate

I wished it was a little longer.

After ordering a cheaper one from a local store, we realized we didn't measure correctly - besides being too small, it didn't look like a sturdy or well-made grate. We purchased this one and it is the perfect size for our fireplace, looks nice and it will hold up well and last a long time. We have used it once since purchasing.

Purchased this after our old welded grate burned through. Had to find something to fit our 270 year old fireplace and price was a concern. I did not feel like paying hundreds for an item that was just a hunk of steel and no one would ever see; just wanted something functional. I like that it is heavy weight, looks ok, holds logs as it should, low price. So far it seems to be holding up as well. If you are looking for beauty, this is not very attractive, at least in an old-style fireplace. Finally, at least in my application, the very short legs require me to start a fire by stacking paper, kindling, etc., all on top of the grate, which does not seem to work as well as my old technique of using the paper UNDER the grate.

It’s exactly what we were looking for in a fireplace grate.

The grate is solid and heavy duty and should last a long time. The problem is the nuts and bolts that are included that are necessary to screw the four legs to the body of the grate are poor quality, soft metal and strip incredibly easily. Three of the nuts and bolts stripped as I was tightening the legs, but they stayed attached tightly, so they weren't a major problem, but the fourth nut and bolt stipped completely before I could get the leg tight against the body of the grate, so it now wobbles and I can't tighten or loosen the bolt at all. It works, but just beware, the nuts and bolts provided are shoddy, poorly machined, soft metal. Made in China of course.
