Good if you already know how to cast and have the basic fly skills
I thought this would be more of a begginers guide however the actual content of the book is for the more advanced fly angler, you need to have the basics sorted such as already being able to cast as tings like double hauling etc aren't covered. Its a good book though, lots of content on working the water column and when to fish different areas is very useful. I've got a lot of lure/deadbait experience so this will help me improve catching on those methods.I am only just learning to cast heavy pike flys so I am going to try and get Barrys first book 'pike on the fly' as I think I need that content as well.

First time fly-piker or expert?
This book will have something for you. The author clearly has a wealth of experience of this style of fishing in a variety of waters. Although some of the situations are not really relevant to most UK anglers (i.e. lots of pike stacked up in shallow spawning bays), Reynolds communicates the excitement and practicalities of the technique very well indeed. Also lists recipes for some of the deadliest pike flies. I find myself dipping into it time and time again.
