Worked for rooftop Fly rod carrier project
I designed a fly rod rooftop carrier because the commercially available ones are above my budget.I bought 2 sets of these caps and powder coated them red and installed on my tubes. Some have complained about the gasket inside not sealing. Mine were good enough. I am making my own gaskets and doubling up the gasket thickness to seal a little more tightly.I like that these lock. They are very easy to actuate and open/close with one hand. I oriented them such that the hatch swings open horizontally like a house door. Works great.FYI: the u-bolt thread size is M10x1.50.Also: they come as raw aluminum. The Amazon photos appear to show grey powder coating but they are not.I bought my own stop nuts to prevent the included nuts from rattling loose on rough mountain jeep trails in Colorado. The included nuts already we’re working loose after 1 week of highway driving to work, testing things out before we hit the trails tomorrow.I am very happy with these. I have made rod tubes using sewer clean out caps, but these aluminum caps add a professional polish and allow you lock them securely.I don’t make stuff for posing at the mall… I use all my stuff on the trials.

Durable and easy to install
Great quality product and easy to install. I used a bead of silicone around each cap with a couple of self tapping screws. They fit perfect over the 6" PVC pipe. I did have to cut the U bolts down just slightly in order to get a deep socket onto the nuts to tighten. This is money well spent!

Great cast parts and u-bolts
The cast parts are pretty impressive. I don't know of another kit that has such a great, real "saddle" for the bottom of the pipe. The cap and door end are well-cast, and fit schedule 40 PVC quite well. I wish the door locked more securely, but I modified it a bit to to make me rest easier when driving with a load of steel bar up there. For the record, this whole kit cost as much as just two PVC caps cost from my local irrigation outlet. This same kit from other online sources can be almost 2x as much as it is being sold here! I can make my own caps. I can make my own U-bolts, but I really liked those cast saddles, and the cost is so reasonable... so I bought the kit.I have some info and corrections (to statements I've seen in the comments) to share.First, this fits well on Schedule 40 PVC. If you want a lighter system, the kit will work on the drain/waste PVC that is about schedule 20. But you must use a bell end on both ends to get the diameter correct. OR you can cut some bands of a few inches each, cut those bands so they expand like a spring clip, slip them onto each end and glue them to make the correct diameter for the cast ends to fit. To strengthen the areas where the U-bolts go, and to make the pipe fit better in the saddles, you can (and I did!) add similar bands (cuffs?) to those areas where the U-bolts hold it. A band saw is really handy at this point! The U-bolts that came with mine are NOT 3/8-16 like everybody says (including the distributor!). They are certainly close, but are actually M10-1.5. This is so close that the M10 nuts from this kit will thread onto slightly narrower 3/8-16 bolts, but a 3/8-16 nut will not work on the U-bolts that came in my kit. I had to create a custom mount for mine, and purchased the 3/8 nuts I thought I needed, but NOPE. Will not fit the U-bolts. The thread pitch is just barely close enough, but the diameter of the M10 bolt is 0.6mm larger than a 3/8 bolt. So don't make the mistake I did! Realize that these are metric and don't waste money on nice stainless 3/8 hardware.

metric size
Instructions list 3/8-16 fittings, I needed additional hadrware. Actually 10-1.5 metric. Just FYI, otherwise worked well. Used on RV as heavy duty sewer hose holder.

Schedule 40 pvc, silicone and drilling to anchor the caps firmly.
This item came exactly as advertised. I read a lot of negative reviews and I was a little worried but I had none of the same issues when I went to install. The caps are fit for SCHEDULE 40 PVC. They came individually wrapped in bubble wrap so no scratches.I was fully aware I would need to use silicone to seal this and I knew I had to drill holes in both caps to secure it firmly to my SCHEDULE 40 PVC. All of this is in the directions.I was also aware I would probably need to drill holes to accommodate the 3/8th ubolts. All I added extra was some fender washers to the ubolts, under my ladder rack, for added strength and support. All in all I am very pleased with this purchase.

Nice Product
Worked really great with schedule 40 pvc tube. Metal ends seem so much more secure than pvc versions. U-bolt attachment and cradle worked nicely.

Decent quality and fast shipping.
Ok so the UBolts could be slightly longer but they worked they're bolted through a 1 1/4" square tubing ladder rack. I used a clamp to squeeze the u-bolts down enough to get a couple threads showing two get the nuts started and then finished off with a box wrench, but it's on it's serious sh.t with the clamps but they're on. I siliconed the ends on after tapping them on with a rubber mallet it's kind of a snug fit seeing how it's just going to hold PEX tubing that should be fine. If you're worried about the ends flying off while you're racing around town between jobs run a screw through each end cap.

Sold me a fake knockoff
I ordered a second one but this is a knock off compared to the first one I got , it’s cheaper and not machined right anywhere. The spring is small and the lock part is too weak to lock . Will ask for a replacement and I’ll let you know .
