Nice wood
This a great piece of desert ironwood. It's very hard a dense, which made a good handle for a pan I made.

Worked great.
As always Ironwood stinks when working with it LOL, that's how I know I truly had Ironwood. Everything was accurate in the description and was glad to have so much handle material with.

You get what you pay for
Well sadly like most of the reviews on here my piece also just had a straight grain pattern. Absolutely zero burl in the block. That aside it is definitely iron wood and best of all the given dimensions are 100% accurate. When I got the block I thought it looked a bit small but a quick measure with the tape showed it was dead on. Hopefully this will produce a couple of good knife scales. My only suggestion is they take the word "burl" out of the description.

Not a block, these are scales. Grain is absolute garbage
I ordered this in expecting a block as the description says. Instead I got scales, and one with horrible grain. It’s not burl wood, so inaccurate description. I returned the first order thinking it was a mistake. Ordered a second one and still the same. Straight grain, not burl, and not a block. Won’t be buying from this vendor again. Was excited as I make a lot of knives and this seemed like a good deal, but from the two orders I placed, they seem like they are being deceptive in their advertising

Not burl
As other reviews have said, don't expect burl. Still for the price this is a beautiful (and hefty) piece of wood. Started working it tonight, at only 150 grit this block is very smooth and has a waxy feel to it. It's almost like satin, can't wait to get to higher grits.

Beautiful grain and smooth finish.
The scales had a good thickness which made for lots of different styles of knife scales. First time that I’ve worked with Ironwood, it’s a little bit different than most woods that I’ve used before. It cuts and sands beautifully and shines up like stone or metal. The knife in the picture is finished with just paste wax. It has such a high oil content that it doesn’t need coats of polyurethane or tung or linseed oil. I’m really happy with the way it turned out

Gotta remember to read the fine print
I received the ironwood, very nice grain, however. I did not check the dimensions closely enough and turns out to be much smaller than I thought. My fault. For the price I do believe it should have been a bigger piece of ironwood. Just my opinion.
