I wanted to learn the art of ship modeling. I started a larger plank-on-frame kit, built most of the hull with some difficulty, then decided to step back a little. A read up on the Model Shipways first few kits designed with the beginner in mind, and they have been very helpful. Save yourself some headache and buy the Dory, Pram, and Smack, patiently build them in that order, and you will be rewarded with some knowledge gained for larger builds in the future. Highly recommended.

Kit is pretty neat but came without the 24 page instruction booklet it was supposed to. However the instruction booklet can be found as an online pdf.

I've always wanted this model and received this as a gift and I love it. It came with everything I need to put it together. It is a perfect set. I've only just began to assemble it but so far so good. I'm taking it slowly. If my rating changes I shall update this review. Highly recommend it.

Laser cut materials make this a much easier kit to build than some others. Very detailed instructions will help out the first-time builder. Nice to have everything needed in one kit. The knife set was not the best but it worked. Have not seen the follow-on kit listed on Amazon yet.

All the parts of this kit are top notch. Quality laser cut Basswood with no complaints. The problem is that this is geared toward a beginner yet the instructions are written by someone who hasn't been a beginner in a long time. A beginner is therefore left looking for third party build pictures and just trying to figure out what the steps are actually asking. The pictures in the book are far too few and creates great confusion in between steps. What should be a relatively pleasant build experience turns into unnecessary frustration from step 1 onward. I am nearly complete with this model and still find myself trying to find other model builders' references to supplement what should be clear in the book.

Nice model so far. The instruction manual is a bit vague in some parts, so you'll have to ask for help, google or use your best judgement. Snapped a few parts during sanding, but wood glue is pretty strong, so they were repaired easily.
