The Bach Cello Suites for Guitar: In Standard Notation and Tablature (Bach for Guitar)
S**T
Simplified
This version won’t indicate where ornaments should be played, and even excludes some ornaments that were written out. It is a decent first pass through these pieces, but needs to be compared with a more complete version.

Absolute must for serious guitarists.
Bach is at or near the summit of Western music; indeed, much of Western music from heavy metal through film scores are just variations on Bach's discoveries. As a metal guitarist of some 40 years, I think it's absolutely essential to spent some time with the master and studying how he organized his musical thinking. Gruber's books are absolutely the best in this regard - expertly tabbed with arrangements that make perfect fretboard sense. I have all four in the series and plan to work through them all slowly. Bach not only can teach you more about music than you ever thought possible, but it's like jamming with the Good Lord himself. Highly recommend for any player in any style. Bach will make you a better musician and, dare I say it, a better person. I'd give this book, and all of Gruber's books, 100 stars if I could.

Bach guitar work's
Excellent transcripts....No fingerings or the usually notations..,A bit disappointed in lack of direction in consideration of formally notated scores...

Good for practicing sight reading. Not good for tab.
Cool book so far. Making better progress after covering up the tabs tho. 😉

JSB cello stes for guitar
I prch'd this book because it was the only one of a couple choices for guitar that had tablature. However, some of the other negative reviews are quite valid: The tab is very poorly done in this edition.

Stay away. Not sure how this has 4.5 stars overall. Deserves 1-2 stars.
This is just bad. Not only are the tabs insanely unintuitive and fingerings don't make sense except for a desire to keep the tone warmer to be more like a cello, just playing through the Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude, there is a wrong note (both in the tab and standard notation) in m. 19.Moving in to the next piece, the Allemande, there's already a wrong note in m. 1.Be warned and do NOT buy this book. Waste of money and too many mistakes. I like the idea of having all six cello suites, but it's practically unplayable. I don't mind that it's single note like on the cello. The bad tabs aren't the worst thing since I can read the standard notation and figure out something more ergonomical. My main problem is with the inaccuracies. I don't want to have to go through the actual cello sheet music and examine note for note with the transcription and transposition to check for more errors.I've pointed out the two wrong notes in m. 19 of the prelude and m. 1 of the Allemande. The other photos are some examples (mainly in the first piece) of the odd fingering choices that really rob the music of any sustain and harmonic resonance.

cannot get free audio!
Bach cello suites for guitar was received today. Tried to go to the address listed to hear the guitar version. CANNOT FIND IT. THE ADDRESS SENDS TO OFF TO INSTRUCTIONS IN GERMAN. NO AUDIO AVAILABLE! I MIGHT JUST SEND IT BACK!

Useless
The tablature was completely useless in this. Illogical. My own fingerings are better.

Mixed feelings
The first downside was the audio tape was not of a guitar playing and that was in contrast to other such options available. The second was the strange tab positions that seemed more suitable for capo to make it flow. I appreciated the effort but having also played a lute I would not recommend for a beginner. In the end a little disappointed in it

This is not a "standard notation" edition
The book claims to be in "standard notation", but it is not. There is a treble clef, as usual, but all of the fingering (such as it is) is embedded in the tab notation underneath. (Which is useless if you are used to reading standard notation.)In effect, you're getting a completely unfingered edition, with the waste-of-space tab underneath.

Great Bach for classical guitar
Well worked out arrangements of Bach's cello suites. Some beautifully melodic pieces and for me perhaps the greatest of all the composers.

Very well done.
Really enjoying this. Very grateful for the transcription. It's transposed up though (not an octave but from G to D) but had to be to fit on guitar.
