Visual Literacy: A Conceptual Approach to Graphic Problem Solving Paperback – April 15, 2000

This book is a fantastic resource if you’re an educator or a student. The concepts are all presented well and clearly.A caveat for buying used though: some sellers really grade “acceptable” books as “good” and it’s all by feeling I guess. My “good” book had a completely crunched corner (every page of the book) and the cover had been folded in half diagonally and unfolded… kind of. The spine has also seen more than just shelf wear.Something to keep in mind when you decide the value to you.

I bought this book for my grad school class as part of a project and I loved working on the problems posed in the book. I like that it shows examples of ways to solve the problem for inspiration and how it can be solved. From an artistic standpoint, this book will keep you challenged and busy while also appealing to one’s artistic impulses. This book is essentially like a math textbook with problems and solutions but, you know, for art. I recommend it for artists looking for a challenge, (art) teachers looking for a different type of project for their students or anyone with an creative instinct that wants to be inspired.

Basic design principles. I like picking it up and looking though the pages whenever I want to be inspired.There are no explanations or anything. Just examples of some design concepts using simple design elements.

The book contained a lot of excellent visual examples to design problems. The book encourages the designer to 'think outside the square'. It is a very good teaching resource and would be suitable for art / design students in upper secondary levels.

Love this book for teaching. Wish I had this when I was in school. So much vital information broken down into easy tpo read and understand. Great examples.

I am a graphic book junkie. This is without question one of the best books I have come across. I cannot open this book without getting amazing new ideas for my projects. I am constantly making notes for future graphics throughout the margins. This book is a must have in my opinion. The only problem you will have is deciding which idea to choose from the many this book will give you!

This book, oh, this book.To put it simply, if you have already learned the principles of design and would like to challenge your creativity, buy this.If you are just beginning in your quest of knowledge, steer clear.It is simply a book full of examples, nothing more.
