Just what I needed
For small home projects this has already been very helpful in saving time and money.Saved me time by getting the job accomplished right the first time.Seems a little over sensitive, but still gives you a great idea of whats hidden behind the wall and exactly where it is.

Useless for Knob-And-Tube or other ungrounded wiring
Reviewing Sperry Instruments PD6902 5-In-1 Multi-Scanner:1. Sperry PD6902 Stud finding function works as specified, best on drywall construction, spotty on plaster-lath construction not having metal mesh reinforcement. Not tried on plaster-lath having metal mesh.2. Sperry PD6902 Metal finding function detects larger metal objects, such as a junction box cover on broadside, at about 2-1/2" distance. Small nails are detected on-end at about 3/4" distance.3. Sperry PD6902 wiring finding function works well only on wiring where neutral conductor or ground conductor is cabled directly next to hot conductor. On ungrounded switch loops and on knob-and-tube wiring the display goes off scale and alarm sounds continuously if within 2 feet of wiring. The sensitivity is much too high to be of any use for pinpointing wiring location in such application. This makes one wonder if the device's designers ever tested their own handiwork. Had they done so, they would have included a sensitivity setting to accommodate such wiring.4. Sperry PD6902 built in outlet tester, as supplied, could not be inserted into outlet. Ground pin was too wide. This was remedied by squeezing the sides of the ground pin in a vise, crimping them slightly inward, thereby reducing the width. Thusly modified, the tester could be plugged into an outlet and then worked normally. The PD6902's outlet tester is nothing fancy, it is just 3 neon bulbs, same as many of the inexpensive dedicated outlet testers. Outlet tester includes a GFCI test button which when pressed adds hot-to-ground leakage, tripping a good GFCI as intended.

Very happy for this useful tool!
The device calibrates every time you want to use the device, and press the button. You can't check something without it first spend a few seconds calibrating. As soon as you accidentally or intentionally release the finger from the button, it'll have to recalibrate again. It works well, just don't calibrate for metal with a metal rod right in front of it.I successfully found several electric wires ranging from 0.5 to 4 inches in the (dry)wall.I also successfully found nails or screws in the walls, from 0.5 to 2 inches.I did not try to look for studs. The back part of the device has an AC checking machine,It will tell you if there's something wrong with the wiring on a socket, or if the grounding is working like it should.

Sweet little gadget
Functional and easy to use. I was glad to find a product like this as it combines two commonly used things into one. It has picked up studs behind plaster that other sensors couldn't pick up.

Nice product.
Excellent tool, but the retention of the tester could be better.

Multi Scanner
Metal detector, and AC detector work well. Stud finder is so-so. The AC circuit tester is very handy. Its a good item to have in your tool box.

Absolute junk!
Oh it detects AC voltage alright, but pretty much anywhere you point it! And if it doesn't, don't worry, it will on the second pass! So not helpful at all, jut false positives and false negatives, no way to be sure. Instructions had to be found on google, there website doesn't even have them for this model number. And I tried the detector on the back side of a wall that had a light switch on the front side, kind of picked it up but didn't. I guess I'm back to square one, just drill and hope for the best. Maybe I'll drill a pilot hole and then stick in a standard contact voltage detector that is much more reliable. Oh and the little metal tip this thing has will mark up your painted walls as you scan with the top portion, as it suggests when in AC voltage mode. Nice little bonus for you to scrub off after!! AVOID.For studs I suggest a magnetic stud finder from CH Hanson CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder . CH Hanson 03040 Magnetic Stud Finder

No paper instruction
Has this tool for almost a year now. Very useful and easy to use. Product is as claimed, hence no need for guess work. In instruction manual found online after much navigation on company web page.

Recommend for studs
Ivenever had much luck with these types of devices but from what ivI've used, this one has been the most accurate. Works well with studs but I find finding electrical wires less convincing.

a little complex to use, but gives the right info when needed, circuit tester hard to fit in RV trailer plugs in tight spaces, had to use a short extension cord
