DELTA FAUCET, Chrome RP5649 Push Button Diverter Assembly

Worked exactly as I hoped and was very easy to install. Perfect fit.

Replacement works great on 47 year old Delta unit.

If you know “Lefty-Loosey, righty-tighty” then you can do this repair. If you have the right tools on hand, a Philips screwdriver, a 7/8 deep-well socket, some tweezers or skinny needle-nose plyers and some plumber’s tape then this is literally a 5-minute repair. My old diverter had broken the cotter pin that holds the button to the paddle and the rod shot out into the tub. Had I known, I could have just replaced that cotter pin but this was easier. Simply remove the faucet handle and the chrome escutcheon. I didn’t turn off the water because no water is present at the diverter when the tub handle is off, but do as you wish. Next use the deep-well socket (I intended to use a crescent wrench but the socket is a better choice) to simply unscrew the old diverter and remove. Next I fished out the separated paddle from inside the fitting (lucky it can’t go anywhere). A quick wrap of plumbers silicon tape (a single wrap please) and screw the new diverter in place. The paddle does not need to be lined up or anything, the water pressure takes care of that. No leaks! Next I cleaned up the wall and escutcheon and replaced it with the two screws, replaced the handle. Tomorrow I plan to run a small bead of clear caulk around the escutcheon (I’ve never used that word before, and now I have 3 times in one review!), the handle and the diverter just to be safe.Don’t call a plumber, just order this part and swap it out, do a happy dance and impress everyone in the house with how handy you are! Super easy to install and fixed the issue.

Installed on a delta shower. The old one was shooting water out of the push button when you turned the bath on. Installed pretty easy if you get a 7/8" deep well socket as mine was recessed in pretty far. After a trip to Lowes it only took about 15 minutes to swap them out. I did notice a small amount of water comes out of the faucet when in shower mode. not enough to bother me. I think it's just a design flaw with this style of tub.

I am a homeowner that likes to repair items when I can, without causing more headaches or extra damage. When we purchased this home two years ago, I noticed that our master bath had a shower with this type of Delta push-button faucet and button diverter. "Swell," I thought. "Every one of these that I have ever used never works the way it is intended." The button never popped out when you were done with the shower, and if you forget to pull it out of the wall when you were done, you left the next person in the shower shocked and cold from the shower suddenly coming on.Sure enough, due to the age of our home (almost 40 years), this shower diverter stuck and was a pain to pull out when finished. After dealing with this for almost two years, I decided to research the repair to see if I could do it myself (instead of installing a new shower - not in our budget). A new shower diverter was the answer, and with the right tools (⅞" deep socket is KEY to taking it off easily) it would be done in about 10 minutes.I went to my local big-box hardware superstore to purchase it. Other stores in my area did not have the genuine Delta part in stock, but this particular store had a third-party part in stock (I will not name here, but it's not hard to figure out - they are probably the only ones that make this particular part for Delta shower faucets). "Should work just fine," I thought. I bought it and took it home.I installed the third-party part and was convinced that this would fix the "sticking button" problem. My old diverter was chock full of calcium and hard-water build-up over the years - so this replacement should work great, right?No. When I tried out the new third-party part, the diverter still "stuck" in place in the wall. When you turn off the shower, the button is supposed to simply pop out and release the water from the shower to the faucet. It was BETTER, but it wasn't great. And the diverter was actually not diverting the full water pressure up to the shower. It was WORSE than before! Our shower suddenly had lost water pressure, with about 30% of the water still going right out the faucet and the remaining water going to the shower head. (Delta indicates that a small pencil-thin stream will flow out of the faucet below with this type of diverter design.)Reading a review that indicated that this particular part is best when you buy GENUINE Delta, I decided to do the same. I purchased it here and swapped it out. And what do you know? THE GENUINE PART WORKS EXACTLY AS DELTA INTENDED THIS PART TO WORK. Our almost-forty year old shower works as it intended.Sorry for the LONG review, but don't do what I did. The third-party part is OK, but it will NOT do what Delta intended it should do. I fault the plastic paddle and the spring inside the third-party part. Not good enough. Delta is still making this correctly. Moral of the story? Purchase this genuine. Don't mess around.

I believe this fixture was put in this house when originally built 42 years ago. That I can still get this part and it fits and has the correct quality to match speaks volumes positively about Delta.That's an easy 5 stars from me.
