By Helmut Newton Autobiography [Hardcover]

Small in size
The book is small. I’d prefer seeing the images full size

Three things I remember from this book:
Newton said that the people who write about photography write about photography for people who write about photography; there's a funny typo where instead of "preying on children", it is written "praying on children" and that mistake was made thru two publications of this book and by publishers who presumably speak English as their first language (Thames and Hudson?) and thirdly, his friend Karl said that Newtown liked to pretend that the color film in the camera wasn't really that, but something else. What Karl fails to mention was that Newton was color blind and liked his color photographs to adapt the "bright colors of a postcard", probably because he was colorblind.

Helmut Newton's best of
New american copies of one of the best photo collection (French's Photopoche, now Photofile) with all the greatest masters of photography. As usual, very nice printing, great text and sellection. A good book to get "the best of" at a nice price.

A Quick Reference Guide
Helmut loved larger than life women portrayed by means of very big images. This book's printing is sharp and has a good cross section of work but it loses the power of his images which were intended to be seen on a very large scale.I would recommend it as a reference but suggest a full size book if you which to begin to appreciate his images.

excellent selection of Newton's work
An excellent selection of Newton's work. More than the photographs, I enjoyed the thoughtful essay written by Karl Lagerfeld as the preface for the book. One thing to keep in mind is that the book is physically small in size. It's not going to serve as a coffee table book if that is what you are looking for.

Great book!!
Took me forever to find this book. No sellers in NYC have it because it's out of print. It's great autobiography and gives wonderful insight into Helmut's view of the world and his work.

Awesome Autobiography - Amazing Photographer
Fascinating insight into the life of an amazing photographer - deeply personal - definately not a 'I met ..... ' name dropping book - full of his real life and character and life's difficulties right from his childhood as a Jew in Nazi Germany during WWII - I do not normally read autobiographies - but have read this 3 times and take it with me as a dip into book if I think I am going to be stuck somewhere for a while !

Good for the money
The format is small but the quality is OK and if you just want a simple introduction then this is a good choice. It has some of the more famous as well as a range of other photographs, so it does the job.
