I've been looking for a way to stream video in my RV when we're traveling all over. I could get a hotspot but that's an expensive option. So I got a low cost high data phone plan, I stream video on the phone and I use this dongle to monitor the video on my TV. It works for YouTube, Tubi (free movie/tv app),...basically the free stuff. So this thing gets me more than halfway to my goal at a small one-time cost. FOUR STARS. We also like to watch some recent CBS shows which you can for FREE on their cbs.com website (I do that on my laptop at home), but when I tried that through the phone, it wouldn't let me use the website via the phone browser; instead, it forced me to play the shows through a CBS i-phone App which I duly downloaded. But then, my phone displays message "video is playing on TV" but the TV doesn't cooperate. The video freezes during the first commercial. NEGATIVE ONE STAR. I don't know why, I don't know if the same problem occurs on other networks. Still, I can probably watch several hours per month of CBS content through the hotspot because my phone plan has a decent (though not super high) cap on hotspot data. All things considered the dongle is probably saving me from an expensive high hotspot data plan for the RV.

This device is much less expensive than the Apple-branded version. The picture and sound quality are good but not quite as good as I had hoped. But it still does the trick rather well.

Will connect for only about 10 mins then you have to unplug and start over

Gets hot after 30 minutes of use.

The cable makes a very easy connection between iPad and TV. The only downside is that downloaded Netflix and others may not be supported if that is your target solution. This is a limitation imposed by the applications, not the cable. The cable does support streaming Netflix etc and does a great job there.

Bought this for a friend to show her travel photos on her TV. Works great and the picture is clear and sharp!

I knew this was going to be trouble, as soon as I removed the dongle from the packaging and the plastic front plate fell off into my lap. After putting the plate back on, plugging in the power & HDMI cable and the lightning side into my phone. My Samsung external display would only show some kind of informational screen. I could never get the phone home screen to display. Tried this setup on a Panasonic TV. Same screen. Maybe this works on Android phones (although I doubt it because this is a lightning connected dongle.) Apple iPhone users... save yourself time and grief. Yes, it's more than 3X the cost but the Apple version of this works right out of the box and gives me no trouble.
