Very pleased so far
This Amazon Basics plane works like a champ. It came nice and sharp right out of the box and is a pleasure to use. Very pleased so far.

Good light duty plane
I needed something to knock down the edge on a door due to a shifting door frame. I live in Houston and the house is constantly moving around on the sea of semi-solidified clay which we use as a substitute for actual ground around here. Little known fact: "Houston" is actually an ancient American Indian word that means "disgusting swamp where no one wants to live." Air conditioning is the only reason it is even moderately habitable. Anyone who lived here prior to the 1950s had to be a dedicated masochist.Anyway, I figured if the tool lasted the two minutes it would take me to plane off a fraction of an inch -- thus allowing my return to the luxury of actually closing and locking my front door -- it would be worth what I paid for it. In fact, it is of very substantial steel construction and was coated in protective machine oil when it arrived. I'm sure it's not up to the standards of cabinetmakers, but for a light duty household tool it's quite serviceable and exceeds expectations at the price.

Amazingly good for the price
Works great, sole is flat (as per my straightedge), handles could be better.Pleasant surprise: reviews led me to expect an OK product, good for rough planing, but not up to fine work without significant filing. Perhaps I was lucky ;-)Adjustment with the double screws is easy and very stable. Blade came already well sharpened. Tightening is OK, but could be more user-friendly.My one complaint is that both the knob and the handle are undersized (and made of some synthetic material instead of wood, but that goes with the incredibly low price). I have smallish hands, but with the narrow profile of the handle, pushing the plane soon becomes uncomfortable -- I put a glove on my right hand to help distribute the pressure -- and with the small and somewhat low-lying knob, grasping it securely is uncomfortable. (I plan on replacing the knob.)Overall, a very high performance-to-price ratio and strongly recommended to any weekend woodworking warrior: it's not a Veritas, but then it's not $200+ either.

Does the job easily
Has a nice weight making it easy to manipulate without fatigue. Bought to shave down cabinet doors that weren't closing properly. I was able tu quickly resolve the issue and get a smooth fit. I have many other doors in the house that I will be using this to adjust. Great addition to the tool box.

Cast iron body, but lousy adjustment mechanism
The plane's shoe is solid and the size/weight is good. The blade needed a lot of sharpening, but that's to be expected in a low cost plane. The sole also needs some flattening, but again, that's to be expected. What I didn't expect is a lousy, almost impossible to set up, adjustment mechanism. It takes a lot of tries to get the blade in the right hight and angle. Keep a lot of scrap wood around for testing when you want to change the setup...

It's A Good Plane For Those Who Do No Woodworking
I know nothing about woodworking, other than to know I needed to plane down a couple of planks for a gate I was building. This plane was at a good price, and it did what was intended; it planed.

Great too for beginners
This was bought to do some minor wood work. The build quality is kind of shoddy. It functions alright, not best but for what I needed it for it did the work with a bit more of a struggle. You just have to make sure its properly calibrated so it can accurately cut flat and not too deep. Its an ok buy for the money.
