Twelve inch model does not function at all. FIVE STARS for the 8" version of the "DISAPPEARING TIME" TRACKER !
I also purchased two of the EIGHT INCH TIMERS and they both work VERY WELL ! The twelve inch timer does not function at all, so I am sending it back. That's unfortunate, as I really like the EXCEEDINGLY CLEAR, large face for hanging on the wall. The eight inch version will have to suffice. Its face is identical in clarity; it just lacks the size. Please note that the INGENIOUS timing mechanism seems a bit delicate. (My sense is that any amount of "bratty behavior" or rambunctiousness could mean doom for this item.) Still, the design is SO ELEGANTLY SIMPLE that even very young children - say, four or five years old - who have a habit of responding well to admonitions to be gentle, and who are inquisitively inclined to follow careful and respectful explanations, can EASILY learn to use this EXTREMELY STRAIGHTFORWARD timer successfully. ....Of course this note is for parents and teachers...possibly the most frequent purchasers. Now I confess that I purchased these timers as the most useful that I could find for ME, all things considered. Being one of the infamous "absent minded professor" types who constantly loses track of time, I have just set one 8" model up at my reading table, and will put the second one near my computer, which is my "other reading tool" --- if I can bring myself to take it down from the kitchen wall on which it now hangs ! So I'm thinking of buying a third one as well as the three inch model so that I have one that's more portable. As you can see, I like this item. The concept of time is a deep one even for philosophers and physicists. The idea of something which is seemingly INFINITE, DECREASING only adds to the puzzle. But in this item we are offered the ethereal concept of 'TIME PASSING' made manifest by an AMAZINGLY CLEAR AND USEFUL TOOL ! For this "DISAPPEARING TIME' tracker , the inventor deserves great praise!

Even Young Toddlers Can Get The Concept
I have to start by saying that I operate a licensed daycare in my home therefore I have multiple children of various ages at all times. I got this clock to help me with the group when it came down to transitioning on to other activities. This clock works amazing for that. When I announced before that we had "five more minutes" or "two more minutes" the kids didn't know what I meant, most didn't undestand the concept yet. This clock allows them to visually see whether they have a lot or a little bit of time left. They see this time in red and can see time passing. I especially love it because they no longer have to ask "when can we...". They just look at the timer now. After hours I've used it with my 2 year old to remind him every 15 minutes that he needs to go to the potty. He even resets the timer himself after he's done. Also the beeping isn't loud and annoying. It's soft enough to not drive me crazy but loud enough to he heard even through commotion. The one thing that I would change is the red film, I'd make it thicker. Little hands may at one point make crinkles or tears in it if touched too roughly.

Visual Timer
I bought this timer to help my 3 1/2 and soon to be 5 year olds see how much time they had left for different activities. They are not autistic (though I understand this is a great tool for children with autism). We use it for bath time, TV time, and also breakfast time during the weekdays (helps keep us on track during the morning rush to get out the door). The audible beep is plenty loud enough to be heard in another room. It is somewhat fragile--the red portion is just a plastic film and the legs on the back that allow the timer to stand can break easily. You just have to be aware that it can break and that it is not really a toy for kids. It has been very helpful for my boys to see the time get smaller instead of just telling them they have 15 minutes left. When the timer goes off, their time is up. They also enjoy setting the timer which is a great learning tool for them to start understanding how to tell time.

Great timer, just wish the scale was smaller
This is a great way to represent time visually for our foster/adopt daughter who has issues transitioning between tasks due to neglect with her bio parents and her temporary foster home. It has proven to be very durable as it has already taken a spill from about a 4' height onto a hard wood floor and nothing broke off and unit still functions perfectly. The only improvement I could suggest is to make the scale smaller. i.e. instead of going all the way to 60 minutes, have one that only goes up to 15 minutes. Most of our "time outs" are in the 5-10 minute duration, would be a much more visible depiction if more of the face would show the passage of time. When it is set for 5 minutes, there is hardly any red at all. Maybe they make another timer that only goes up to 15 minutes, but I did not see it.

Really Helpful
I ordered the 12" TimeTimer. It's so much larger than I'd expected, but it doesn't really matter. I like that I'm able to hang it on the wall where I'm able to view it at all times. I'm an adult with severe ADD. Time management has always been a huge issue for me. It's great that the timetimer is able to show time as a measurement, and has been such a great tool for me in regards to making appointments in time, and staying on task. The only pretty big let down is the overall quality of it. It's made out of very, very cheap material. Sometimes I feel like it's going to break just by looking at it. It certainly wouldn't take much. I think it's only a matter of time before it easily breaks. For the expensive price I had paid for this - I definitely expected it to be more durable & constructed of higher quality material.
