Not very user friendly
This item seemed like it would be great to use to trace images from my phone but even with the brightness all the way to 100% I still had difficulty. The item cracked and scratched not long after I set it up. I got this for less than $10.00 so it just wasn’t even worth my time or gas to go to Kohls to return it to Amazon….I wouldn’t recommend this item

It's easy to assemble, but takes some getting used to
It's easy to assemble and works well, but tracing while looking through the glass takes some getting used to. I find it best to look at it from a fairly low angle, which with my ipad meant my head was very nearly touching the ipad itself. It works, but it's a bit tricky to get used to.

It's ok.
Nothing wrong with the product but the application doesn't work. If you expect it to project the image to the paper, it doesn't do that. You look through the plastic and draw what you see. This was a problem for me as I couldn't actually see the pencil point. I can't use it.

Gets the job done, mostly.
It gets the job done, but it isn’t as reflective as I’d like. It’s only really good to trace bold graphic black lines on a light background. Any detailed photos with colors that are the similar shade don’t reflect well. I would recommend this more for an experienced artist that just needs to get proportions correctly. I feel like it would be super frustrating for a beginner to use since the images aren’t too clear.

Clearing up the negative energy here! Let's talk about all these bad reviews... shall we?
Short of something actually broken, these bad reviews are unwarranted. I don't know how to state it more simply than that.I actually looked at the Kodak projector... and the stand... and the HDMI converter you must have to use it, all for around $250. Fancy. But is it necessary?I already have an old school projector that I used for big canvas transfers of sketches and murals because I HATE doing those tedious grids. Ugh! I remember my son saying I was cheating because I was only tracing; until I handed him the pencil and the focal point of what you are tracing leaves the canvas at the pencil tip and lands on the pencil, or your hand... He decided it wasn't cheating after all. I tell that story to illustrate the point here. What did they imagine they were buying, something to magically transfer the image like a telepathic printer? No matter the source of the projected or reflected image, tracing in this manner isn't easy. It requires patience and skill.I'm going to be brutally honest; after 20 years of tracing projections, this little $8 gadget works just as well at a close distance and a small scale as the fancy Kodak projector (and my clunky old school one that was cool a couple of years ago) does at a distance and larger scale. Now, here's the kicker, with the right light source direction in the room, this little $8 gadget will reflect mirrored words (or a sketch) printed or drawn on paper, pretty darn well. You don't HAVE to have a phone or illuminated device to use it. Buy what you want. It's your money. I'm stoked with this thing and the fact I didn't waste over $200 on shiny, redundant tech.Sometimes simplicity is sublime.

Not the best choice
Not easy to use and it gets in the way of your hand while trying to decorate in small detail. Not worth the money. Not a very well thought out design for true cookie decorators

Understand what these are/what you're buying
This item, and the numerous generic items like it, are not clear about what they're offering. This is a simple tool to exploit the 'Pepper's ghost' illusion, where a pane of glass (or plexiglass, in this case) has an image projected onto it (from your phone) which can then be viewed like a 'hologram' in front of whatever's behind the glass. This not like an actual digital projector you would use, and the plexiglass itself has no special properties. The illusion can only be viewed from in 'front' of the plexiglass, or the same side the phone is on. All of that being said, it works extremely well, and for ~$9 there is not a better tracing tool available. Do note that the image will be mirrored from its original orientation, so if you're intended to use this to trace text or a specific image onto another surface you will need to 'mirror' it from within your phone first.I'm writing this review specifically because I was confused by what these various devices were claiming to offer (for awhile I thought they offered lenses which worked alike those found inside digital projectors), but now I realize they are simple examples of the Pepper's ghost illusion. (The same technique is used within the Haunted Mansion ride at the Disney theme parks, where screens embedded in the floor project images onto glass panes that make it appear as though ghosts are really effervescently moving around the attraction. Obviously this is not *quite* as profound, but I appreciate the tool none-the-less.)

TERRIBLE
I thought i'd get this to trace some stencils on to a pot.... UGH didn't work - arrived broken on side..... i glued it back together - it's hard to use .. if you do start a project don't move your head because when you look back at the tracing project it will be "off"..... FRUSTRATING ITEM!!!!
