Fun Read-aloud
My grandchildren (6 and 9) are really into pirates but not ready for the original version, so I downloaded this to my kindle. It was a fun read for me, doing all the voices; and the kids loved it, begging to hear more. Sometimes they would take turns reading aloud too. It was a great introduction to pirate stereotypes. (We also watched some old film versions as well as Disney’s Treasure Planet.) Such a fun start to our summer “pirate camp!” It helped us tweak our pirate dramatic play as well, with vocabulary and themes and informed other activities around ships, maps, and navigation.

Excellent for beginning readers
My six year old grandson has been obsessed with interactive app of The Fabulous Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore since he was three, especially the page where Morris hands out Alice in Wonderland, Treasure Island, A Christmas Carol, and Treasure Island. I told him they were all real books, and that we'd read them as soon as he was ready. He's starting to read on his own (thank you, Mr. Morris Lessmore!) and I purchased this book for him so he could have a taste of the books Mr. Morris Lessmore offers.Yes, it's simplified, and no, it's not as good as the original, but it's perfect for a beginning reader to get a sense of the story and experience the thrill of sounding out words to make a story.

Our 7-year-old read it to me!
This book follows the original faithfully (at least as far as we've read). I tried reading the original to our 7-year-old grandson, telling him it was PopPop's favorite book when he was a boy, but it was slow going. So I ordered this book and started reading it to our grandson; he was looking over my shoulder when he started reading it to me! There was only one word he had to sound out, and that was "admiral."

Well done
Both my 11 year old son and 8 year old daughter loved this book. Honestly it surprised me how captivated they became when I read it aloud to them. This is an excellent retelling and I highly recommend it.

My 11 year old liked it
I was trying to read the original to my 11 year old and they were getting pretty bored of the old English and pirate language. I got this for them instead and they much preferred it. I used it to make out a worksheet and then we watched Treasure Planet as part of our "classics" curriculum. Highly suggest it ;)

Easy Read for Child
I originally purchased a copy of the original worded novel which was too hard for my seven year old grandson. This was a good compromise, he read a chapter to me a day. The novel will wait for him when he gets older, if he wants to read it...

Great young reader edition but has different cover than advertised.
This is an excellent chapter book for young readers. My 7-year old son's reading level has now reached this level but he still needs to be challenged to actually read books at this level. Hopefully this version of the story will capture his imagination. I read an even simpler illustrated version to him as bedtime stories when he was younger and he loved it.One quibble is that the cover that actually came with the the Kindle edition that I bought doesnt have the more exciting cover shown in the Amazon website. Instead, it is a boring text only cover. I uploaded a screen shot of the Kindle version cover.
