Digital Photography Essentials: Build Your Skills from Beginner to Confident Photographer Paperback – October 18, 2016

This book is an excellent overview of most areas of digital photography. It is sort of like an encyclopedia. The author provides a clear description of many different concepts, techniques and skills (aperture, trimming and resizing, etc) and then shows examples of them. It does not go in-depth on any one topic but instead provides an overview of many topics and may not be as useful to someone with advanced skills. However, I found it very helpful, especially to learn specific new skills and about different areas of photography.

I saw this book at Costco and held off on buying it because I had an Amazon gift card. It was a dollar or two cheaper than the Costco version and I spent enough on Amazon to get free shipping so it was a good deal. This book is very easy to read and I love the way the pages are laid out. It was better than I expected because it has activities for you to do to enhance your photography skills. I am excited to get out there are start taking pictures again.

This is the best textbook I have ever bought.It has a great combination of graphics and text. Most textbooks charge an arm and a leg for cheap quality paper and poor binding.This book has quality paper, similar in texture and feel to the glossy photo prints you get on developed photos. You will question all other textbooks as this sets the standard.I cannot say how effective the content is unfortunately because my class just started.Cheers!

I was pleased with the information and layout of this book. I was looking for a good book to help me get the best use of my digital cameras. The books has lots of well detailed tips and ways to improve my photography skills. I'll be keeping this book close as I practice new skills with my digital cameras.

Well written and illustrated. I like the way Tom explains how to become a better photographer step by step in easy to understand examples.

I have been teaching photography for over a decade. In my opinion this is the yet the best available source for the newcomer in the wonderful world of electronic imaging. Excellent book for demonstrating photography tools, strategies, and techniques, along with great pointers on better mastering more artistic and subjective aspects of photography, like composition, lighting, and color. Any time I find myself asking, "How'd they do that???" I get this book out and I can usually find the answer. It's invaluable to a serious enthusiast, and great for a pro too. I would say this book is essential to the library of any modern digital photographer!

It would be helpful if the book gave the camera settings captioned under each photo, this would help the beginner understand basic settings.

The book wasn't quite what I hoped. There are better books out there if you are a beginning photographer.
