I bought it for my parents. They know some English but not good enough to communicate with native speakers freely. So far, they have used it with strangers a couple times on the street and it worked well. The key is to speak slowly and don’t repeat a word or stop for a long time within a sentence. They use it quite a lot at home to learn English. They said it happened to them a lot that when they want to say something in English, they just cannot figure out which word to use or even could not think of a word. Now if that happens again, they just let this device to translate whatever they want to speak. It helped them to learn new words and be more fluent in English. It is much better than a computer or tablet which is too big to carry around and sometimes too complex for them. They also use the picture translator a lot in department stores and grocery stores to learn new words. It really helped a lot in foreign language learning. Now my 7-year-old ask me to buy one for her to learn Chinese!Pros1, great size, easy to hold in hand; cool appearance.2, not the cheapest one but still among the cheaper ones, and served us well3, nine times out of ten the translation is accurate4, the battery is good. Depending on how often we use it (actually we use it a lot), I usually charge it daily at night or every two daysConsWIFI needed. Besides, I wish the screen resolution is better.

Translation is not accurate thru media or liveI tried with mine native language Spanish it was 50/50 at best. Tried wi fi based,tried the camera works with simple signs anything longer or a sentence depending on language. It does better.tried for Serbian live,was horrible sintezi or robotic voice couldn't understand nothing. Software need more work

Returned it when I found out that you have to be connected to wifi to use. Dont see that happening in most places while traveling. Sure I could use a hotspot on my phone but now I need 2 devices and there is additional cost to use it.

It works pretty well. However it does not always pick up your voice and gives the message “it seems you did not speak” after it says "start talking.” Very quickly. and sometimes it starts translating before you re finished. It is not that quick because of this and I sometimes have to push the start talking button several times before it picks up what I am saying. it seems to turn its input mode off and on erratically. When It does pick up my voice it is very good though. Also entering passwords for wifi is tricky and touchy it takes a while. However, it does remember passwords once you get them in, which is good. At one place the wifi required me to input your email address. That I found impossible to do with this machine. I do not know if the cheaper ones with bad reviews are worse and I do not know if the more expensive ones are better. I do know that while it is a little clunky, this one does work well enough for my satisfaction.

I bought it for my parents. Just wondering how it works, but it really surprises me when I got the item. It's like an old fashion phone. The translation is very accurate and I tried it for several languages. You can directly talk and translate and you can translate for two different languages simultaneously because there are two different buttons to the left and right that you can choose for different languages. The battery life also lasts very long. I charged it the day I received it and I can use it for around a week or more.

Noticed that other programs i paid $ for, pronounce words differently. Perhaps there are dialects but i would have expected Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone would have been closer.

Returned because of poor performance

I purchased this for my son since he travels out of the country quite a bit. It has helped immensely when he has problems communicating because of language barriers. He is definitely getting a lot of use out of it.
