This cookbook is a classic and was owned by nearly every woman in the 1920-40’s.... Nearly all these women were devastated when the Rumford products where no longer available.... this is a must have for anyone wanting to experiment with cooking as the pioneers did....

This cookbook is a reprint of an original book produced by the Rumford Chemical Works, who produced and sold baking soda and powder close to a century ago. The recipes in it were considered to be standards of the time and still produce credible product. The foods are simple and easy to prepare only because opf the lack of current technoligy in the olds timer's kitchen. For the food historian and t6he chef looking for 'new' ways to prepare food, this is a MUST have for the book shelf.

I bought an original copy of this at a garage sale and loved reading the recipes. However, I moved and the book didn't move with me. No clue what happened to it so I ordered a reprint. The recipes look good but you need to be a cook or baker to make them work for you. No baking or cooking times are in the book, just things like 45 minutes in a hot oven or 30 minutes in a medium one. I think that is part of the charm.

I lost an antique version of this book and was very happy to replace it....
