Drains the batteries very quickly
Purchased in 2014, used rarely. I recently used it to try to locate a coolant leak. The LEDs are bright with fresh batteries (3 AA's), but it seems to drain them very quickly to the point where it isn't bright at all (my only reason for less than 5 stars).I used it after dark, which helps alot. The yellow glasses definitely help seeing the dye.

The nice "gift" from my wife turned out to be a ...
The nice "gift" from my wife turned out to be a total farce in terms of service and it being a defective product. First shipment, I got the UV glasses and no UV flashlight. Replacement shipment, I got the UV glasses and a UV flashlight in a damaged box with a dented bezel with only 1 of the 6 UV LEDs working. The one UV LED that worked was not bright enough to illuminate UV dye in its bottle from more than 2 inches away. By the time the gift was given, open, returned, tested and found to be defective again, the 30 day time (Amazon rules) to replace a third time had expired. Online shopping at Amazon is no longer fun, it is a real PIA.The UV glasses are OK, but you do need a working UV light. The flashlight is a total disaster because the ON/OFF switch suffers from a DESIGN DEFECT that makes it unusable. Attempting to turn ON the flashlight by twisting the barrel destroys the six LED solder joints as they are jammed into the positive terminal of the upper most battery.with the twisting motion. Even if Amazon replaced the flashlight, the LED solder joints would be "TOAST" after a few ON/OFF switch cycles. I badly needed a working UV leak testing setup. So, I removed the UV LED circuit board, changed out the LEDs that had their leads demolished within a few turns and fabricated a new circuit board and reflector that contacts the positive terminal of the upper most battery and then sealed the red bezel to the battery tube. Now, the light turns ON/OFF by putting the batteries IN for ON and taking them OUT for OFF. It worked long enough to find the leak and repair it. Too much hassle. Went out and bought a UV flashlight at a local store for a fraction of the price. As it turn out, a 15 lead detection task took forever due to the defective product and Amazon's totally B.S. return / replacement policies. My wife and I are fed up with problems during several recent Amazon purchases involving missing parts, cr-ap products, prices much higher than local stores and shipping times much longer than Ebay sellers in the orient shipping across the Pacific Ocean. Amazon has truly lost the competitive edge ever since the Prime gimmick took free fast economy shipping away and minimum order rules have become ridiculous. Next comes thousands of intrusive Prime quadracopters displacing workers so they can dump Amazon packages on our doorsteps and bag the cash with lightening speed.. No thanks!

For better or worse
Purchased this product (along with Tracer Products TP34000601 UV Fluorescent Leak Detection Dye - Set of 6) to diagnose a persistent oil leak on my wife's 2006 Kia Sedona. While the oil leak wasn't tremendous in volume, it had gotten everywhere and was making the job of determining the exact source of the leak quite difficult indeed. After placing a 1 ounce bottle of the tracer dye in the oil and driving around the neighborhood for a bit, I took a look with the detection light while wearing the yellow-colored glasses. Initially, the areas fluorescing were difficult to see. After turning out the lights in my shop, however, it was much easier to see and I was able to pinpoint the source of the leak.Since its initial purchase, I've been able to use this product often to help diagnose oil leaks for a number of other vehicles belonging to friends and family. For better or worse, my home shop has become the go-to place for friends and family looking to diagnose an oil leak before taking it to the shop for this purpose. Of course, the real money-saver for the DIYer is if you're willing to make the repair as well as part of the process. My only complaint, while minor, is the need to have the vehicle in the dark in order to adequately see there areas where the tracer fluid is fluorescing. There are probably stronger lights out there that would preclude this need, but for the price, it's a small thing to have to turn off the lights for a bit in order to see the leak clearly.

Huge savings of time and money!
I used this light in conjunction with one bottle of Tracer Products TP34000601 UV Fluorescent Leak Detection Dye - Set of 6 (also a 5* product - please see that review for detail).Using this light of this flashlamp and the aforeto metioned dye, a fuel leak in the engine compartment of our car looked like molten lava dripping out. I had been unable to find the leak under 'white' light. This flashlight has an aluminum barrel and end-caps. It has o-ring seals so it should be resistant to the elements. A nice feature is that it can be switched on intermittently by pressing the button on the end cap or continuously by screwing the end cap snugly against the barrel. The light was bright enough to easily locate the leak although I was working under the proverbial 'shade tree' when it was used. I did walk around the house after dark to look for urine stains. The light output seemed strong but no stains were found except in the litter box. Good kitty! At first I thought that the included yellow safety glasses were provided just to protect the user's retina from UV damage but they actually increase the contrast of the fluorescent glow. They are of pretty good quality, too. There was no noticable optical distortion and they were well protected for shipping.Using this combination of the UV light and fluorescent dye saved me a lot of time and money repairing our car!
