These days I use this dictionary almost exclusively as it is fairly complete, addresses a huge variety of expressions and each entry is extremely clear and well organized, all of this while being a small book that can be carried around.

I bought this for my husband whose hobby is translating Latin texts, for some reason. He thinks this book is great!

Happy to have this publication. I am doing a translation of 1609 church record that was written in Latin. This book had better definitions that any of the online translators and guides I could find. My only negative comment is the type size. I literally have to use a magnifying glass to read it. Type is way too small.

I'm a second-year Classics student and was just recommended this by a visiting professor. I love it! It makes doing my translations so much easier. I have another lexicon, but it's huge (the biggest book I own) and provides dozens of unnecessary references. This dictionary will provide you with a quick English definition so you don't lose your "translation momentum," so to speak. I wish there was something like this for Greek!

It is inexpensive, light to carry, and most important, it is well done from a lexicographic point of view: long vowels are always marked, there are a lot of Latin words and the entries are rich in grammatical information. There are various common expressions and idioms for more important words. In sum, I would mark this dictionary even 6 stars for the author's work. I have been using it for many years.But recently (January 2018) I have decided to buy a new copy. I got two copies in the end. Both are defective in the way they were printed. There is missing information on so many pages: there is a large margin left on one side of a page and some information is missing on the other margin (edge) of it. Bantam Book's printer was out of function. I assume only a set of these dictionaries were defectively printed and the problem will be solved soon. But it means there is no serious quality control in Bantham House. Leafing through the pages one can see immediately what the problem is.Unfortunately, since there is no other way to evaluate separately the the work of the publisher in contrast to the work of the writer, I must give only three stars for what I got.
