With my girls scouts(6thgrade) and they loved it but these papers are ever so much better. Plenty of free patterns on the Internet, so no worries about not having directions to follow. Papers are nice quality and almost impossible to find many shades of the same color anywhere else.....even origami papers are not as good as this, plus the origami patterns are mostly bold,. These patterns are the right scale and intensity. Lots of fun, worth the money if you want to try iris paper folding.

There are (at least) two schools of creative thinking about iris folding: one is using papers of many colors with the same basic print or design (rainbow effect), the second is using papers of one-ish color but many different tiny patterns, creating a more monochromatic design. This book belongs to the second group. You can easily make iris creations in the first group using the huge 180-sheet paper pads (NOT cardstock) sold at big-box craft stores, or if you carefully shop the individual sheet paper racks at these stores. Both styles are beautiful, but you get the chance to use the rainbow type on more varieties of card occasions. That said, these papers are delightful because the pages provide some from the entire color-wheel and the strips of print designs (use a paper-cutter to trim them crisply) are the perfect size to be featured in cards. There are tips, instructions, and one "beginner's" pattern for an iris aperture included here, but there are hundreds of free shaped (circle, heart, oval, box, animals and even letters) templates for openings available on the web, so that is not a problem. Iris folding is a wonderful way to frame small pictures or other treasured objects (charms?) as well as just decorate the front of a card or scrapbook page. I did one with my daughter's year of graduation at the center--it's your choice as to what to feature. Note to teachers and recreation or Girl Scout group leaders: there are enough papers here (24 pages--6 of them pink) that they could furnish supplies for an afternoon's activity, when supplemented by tape, scissors, cardboard for your template patterns (from shirts washed and packaged by a laundry is perfect weight), and white foundation cards and envelopes for their creations. I just started making Iris Folding cards so this was the first paper I found. It's okay but the colors are not very vibrant. Have since found Origami Paper with betters colors and patterns; inexpensive wrapping paper also works well, with a ton of choices.

Wish there were more books like this. I've made Easter and now Mother's Day Iris folded cards. The paper folds beautifully, it's not as thick as other books of folding papers I have purchased.
