Apricorn 4TB Aegis Fortress L3- FIPS Level 3 Validated USB 3.0 Hardware Encrypted Portable Drive (AFL3-4TB)

I needed a secure drive to store a lot of sensitive data, so I decided to take a chance with this one. It's relatively easy to set up and program to your liking, just be aware that the transfer speeds are not very fast if you need to write a lot of data as I did. It is a hard drive after all, not solid state. It also runs pretty hot when under heavy use, so make sure there is adaquete ventilation around it. Hopefully this drive will prove to be reliable in the long run. All in all I'm pleased with this drive - it's built well, not to difficult to use, and the price is reasonable for what it offers. One final note, the led's do not turn off when you put the computer to sleep, just in case that bothers you.

This hard drive works well. I am concerned that it is fragile because of the mechanical hard drive. It would be better if I opted for the SSD.

Very secure and rugged. But it takes a long time to upload footage to it. And if you have a lot, it can time out and you have to start all over.

Good buy

Disk works great, plenty of space and speed, no problems so far. I found out from hard experience that the disk locks itself every time the server is rebooted. This is to prevent someone taking the disk off one server and connecting it to another and accessing the data. There is a software option to change this to remain unlocked during reboot when using it in a secure data center, but that information is buried deep in the user guide and now I will have to have the disk shipped back to me, set the option, then ship it back. Also, works well with Microsoft Bitlocker.

I just finished a file copy of several gigabytes that took an hour or so of data transfer and near continuous writing and reading (file verification). Worked just fine.Data transfer rates using the USB3 cable were surprisingly fast considering how much data I pumped into it, and even more impressive is the fact the unit did not even warm up during this process.

Peace of mind for when work has to travel with me. Simple to set up. Simple to use.

For background, I own the Apricorn 16 and 32 GB thumbdrives, and the 1 and 2 TB harddrives. I have owned them all for many years and they work great. This 5 GB harddrive was a huge dissapointment. It allowed me to set the password. I transferred a total of three files before it stopped accepting data and froze up my Windows File Explorer. I retried the entire process of disconnecting, putting in the password, and try to transfer my data to it. The results were always the same. I sent it back to Amazon and received a refund.

I’m really happy with this. It is so easy to use. Customer service was first rate when I had a delivery query.
