Simple overview of C++ with examples
I got this today and I'm about halfway through. Great, simple introduction to the basics of C++, including setting everything up on Windows and Linux. I'm knocking off a star because in the code samples there is a lot of text that is written "lightly" to indicate comments and things like that, but it's SO light that it can be hard to read. Otherwise, for the price it's really amazing and I'm really happy with it.

Exactly what I wanted
I have recently started learning programming and decided to begin with c++. I found most learning tools for programming marketed for beginners assume you know more than you do. Because of this I very carefully researched which book to get to go along with the video course I am taking and I ended up with a short list of books. This book was not one of them.I waffled on which from the list to buy and I finally pulled the trigger. It was highly recommended from a few sources so I went with it. It was not good at all. So I went back and ordered option 2. It wasn’t good at all either. Option 3 was very expensive and I just couldn’t bring myself to buy it.That’s when I saw this book and thought heck for the price I’ll roll the dice and just see if it’s any good. It is exactly what I was looking for from the start. Descriptive, doesn’t assume I know anything, to the point, clear, and informative. I know this review is long and could have been shorter but I felt like others have probably gone through this experience as well, so if the above review describes your experience this book is likely a good fit for you.

Great beginner's book for C++ Programming learners -- not but enough depth for a course.
Great beginner's book for C++ Programming learners -- not but enough depth for a course. I bought 14 of these to give to my students in Computer Science II, as a supplement to the textbook. I'll add it as a required text next semester, but still just as a supplement to the comprehensive text.

Explains C++ programming very well
This book explains why you do things to make coding easier. It shows the long way to perform a task then an easier way to reduce steps. Lots of examples.

Good solid book at teaching the very basics of C++
This book takes you through the baby steps of each step of C++ programming, so I rate it highly because that is how I learn. The book does a reasonable job of teaching the object oriented aspects, but the last 4 chapters on that subject are a degree harder than the others. But that might be because object oriented programming is hard to begin with. I am still trying to learn that object oriented material better. I think this book does a nice job explaining calling by reference, by value, and using pointers.
