I like the metal construction
I prefer to use this pump when I only have a small number of pads to desolder. I like the metal construction. The button is easy to operate with one hand. It has worked well sucking solder off PCBs. This is becoming my tool of choice when working on new projects. I also have a cheap desoldering station and a nice Hakko gun. However, my new projects may have one bridge or one part in the wrong spot. It really isn't worth it to fire up the heavy duty desoldering equipment for one or two quick fixes. I always have wick on hand, but I find the Weller pump very hand to have around too. It has worked well on through hole components. This would be a nice second choice if a more expensive desoldering station is out of your budget. It has held up well for several months now.

Works great!
I've been using Weller soldering products for 45 years. The quality is the same as my old one from 1980. It was just worn out, finally.

Durablly well built and has great suction without melting the tip.
I am surprised I found this. I had one from years and years ago, and after much use I managed to break the tip off. But If found this one on Amazaon, a direct exact replacement. I have used it on wires, circuit boards, component removal, etc. It works great without having to have an electric powered one and often don't even need to use a wicking or dewicking tool to get any excess off. Hold the tip very close, even on what you have soldered (melted) and hit the button, the force of suction extracts all the solder. double click it to project the waste solder back out the tip, or unscrew the tip to let the excess solder to drop out.

A little hard to maneuver, sometimes solder wick works better
I like this in applications where it makes sense. It's a powerful little sucker and works well for taking components off of circuit boards. It is sturdy and should last a long time. For cleaning connectors or other irregularly shaped objects, however, solder wick works better for me. I use either this or solder wick depending on the application. Definitely not one-size fits all, but a good tool to use appropriately.

Works Great
I had the plastic version of this solder sucker I got from Radio Shack. It lasted twenty years in my hobby shop! This is exactly the same design, but in aluminum. The quality seems good and it works great. Worth the extra money for the aluminum one in my opinion, even though the plastic one lasted a long time for me.

Worked better than expected
I have used these before and usually the tips melt pretty quick. This one held better than I was expecting.I highly recommend using a hot plate with it. If you have double sided component placement, turn the hot plate down a bit, use helping hands to suspend the PCB, and then use an iron to melt the target solder from the bottom. Having the board hot already will make the iron's job a lot easier and faster, which will make your life much easier.
