Mastering Product Management: A Step-by-Step Guide

Concise. Lucid. You should be reading it now.
Since I am (a) not a product manager, (b) a colleague of Kevin's, and (c) a net promoter, you might reasonably expect some bias in my review of this book, and you might wonder whether I am competent to judge its merits. To these objections, I offer the following points:0. I have seen the man himself in action. He knows whereof he speaks. Lo, he walketh as he talketh. Yea. Verily.1. I am not an easy win. I am more of a Cold Shower Guy. If I didn't think the book was red hot, I would pencil in some appropriately vague milquetoast here and peace out, on to the Next Big Thing.2. I have watched many an unfortunate product managers screw things up by the numbers and/or be cast into darkness by the twists and turns of fickle fate. This kind of meteoric calamity is easy to put into context from my post hoc perspective as a support leader: after the dust has settled, a lot of erroneous thinking becomes fairly obvious, even to the world's eedeots, and its repetition in the course of human events becomes even more glaring if you stick around for a few years and watch what is happening.3. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that every one of these u. p. m. would now be revered by their colleagues had they but read, understood, and lived by the guidance distilled so ably into this comprehensive disquisition on How We Do it.SUMMARY: If you are going to manage a product, you should read this book. If you don't know how to do it, you will have a fighting chance. If you know how to do it...well, you can nod and smile and agree, or secretly take a few notes now that you *actually* know how to do it.And I'm out. Godspeed withal.

A valuable reference for serious PLM practitioners
Covers the very broad subject of PLM in concise prose and touches on numerous tools and models which are widely used in this discipline. It is suitable as a reference guide but not as primer to product management. As title says it will enable the reader to develop a mastery of Product Management. If you are a product manager in any vertical it will serve as a valuable reference and provides useful guidance and detail from the early phases - Discovery and Planning through Development to the final phases of Launch, Marketing and eventually End-of-Life. Although I read the Kindle version I feel it would more useful to have the paperback on a nearby bookshelf for quick access and easy reference.

Great overview for novices, gap-filler for mid-level PMs, and review material for rusty veterans
If you knew nothing about Product Management, this book would be an amazing whirlwind step-by-step guide to get you from point A to point B. I consider it the crib notes of Product Management. You won't learn every detail that you need to know. But this book will give you the outline of every area you need to master at each phase to be a master in your role. You will need to supplement this material with more reading to truly master Product Management. If you are a mid-level PM who has had some exposure to product management, you will likely find this useful to fill gaps where you haven't had visibility in the past. If you have done end-to-end product management in the past, but have stepped away for a while, this is a great refresher.

Great Snapshot and Reference for Product Management
Found this book to be an informative reference and essential guide for the critical aspects of effective product management. The book does a nice job of staying lean and consistent throughout and provides a systematic, measured approach to how a product lifecycle works and the important strategies in each phase. The book leverages a "snapshot" style, leading with bullet points and subtitles to break the material down into digestible chunks! A great add to your library.Would recommend using this book as a springboard into other material that showcases more visual frameworks and case studies specific to your industry to understand how to innovate for the benefits that people expect from products.

Clear, concise and informative product management road map.
I am not a product manager but will be working closely with product managers in the near future. For this reason I purchased this book and am very glad I did!The author is clearly a veteran in his field and is skilled at laying out MBA concepts in a clear and direct manner which was greatly appreciated. It is an extremely well written and comprehensive guide which I would recommend to anyone involved in product management or product marketing or indeed anyone who wishes to gain a more detailed knowledge of the field (including myself).I especially enjoyed the author's insights into product strategy and financial analysis and of course being in recruitment I gained valuable insights from the 'Managing Product Managers' section of the book which includes recruiting and onboarding. As a result of reading this book I am now far more confident of working with and understanding the core concepts of Product Management. It will be my 'goto' for anything product management related from now on. Kudos to the author and a big thank you!!
