Doesn't work
No problem with installing the program, but that is far it went. I could not authorize the installation, as connection to the internet server for the authorization would not happen, as if it didn't exist. And the program will not work until that is done. Tried the web page link that came with it, and guess what, doesn't exist. The phone number supplied with the CD doesn't work at all either. Contacted Amazon and got the return/refund for the item under way. Has been sent back, waiting for refund to happen. Very disappointed with this purchase. Beware of buying it!! It tried to authorize it for a week, thinking there might be a website/server problem on the day or worst case 2 maybe, but no luck, it would not happen. Yes tried 2 different computers with it, xp & 7, firewall & virus programs turned off, but no luck. The company associated with it must of gone bust or dropped it??? Even Google cannot find them. Will buy the good ole hardcover version when refund is done. Won't have to worry about authorization on the internet for them ;-).

Chilton needs to be more up-front about software activation
My main gripe with this software is that it requires "phone home" activation over the internet, and that I had to find this out AFTER I had already bought the software, for nowhere in Amazon's product description or on Chilton's web site does it tell you this. The activation process doesn't give you an activation code to keep for later use; they expect you to activate again if you have to reinstall the software later on the same machine. Kind of annoying if, like me, you do field work and sometimes go without internet access for a while. I got around this by doing a clean install, activating the software, and then immediately saving a complete system image of my hard drive which I can restore later if needed. It works, but it's kind of a pain, and I'd prefer to avoid the issue entirely by having a print version. Plus, I find phone-home software objectionable for reasons of personal privacy. My other minor gripe is that there's no quick way to tack on a second operation to an existing repair issue. Say, for example, you're replacing a transmission at 5 hours, and the customer says, "Let's replace the rear main seal while we're at it." The rear main seal is listed at 5.4 hours, so if you tack that on, you end up with 10.4; so you have to create a custom operation of .4 hours to add on to your transmission replacement. Not really a big deal, but it creates a little extra work in doing your estimates.Other than that, the software works well.
