Practical and so very useful!
I purchased these when I began my water kefir journey. They are perfect for straining kefir and save having to use a strainer. I also like the clear plastic cover that can be opened partially for air intake or sealed. These are so practical and useful! I liked the option of purchasing 2 at a time as I had them both in use. They are definitely worth the price.

Fits wide mouth mason jars and comes in a 2 pack
I have found these caps are the best when you make your kifer at home. The liquid pours out easily. You undcrew the top cap, take it off and use the strainer to pour the liquid into another bottle. It leaves the Kiefer grains in the bottle and you don’t have any mess to clean up. I’m so glad I ordered these. They are very handy, a lot easier for me to make my own kefir from home and are dishwasher safe.

Great for fermenting, not so good for straining
I love all things Masontops and was actually part of their crowd funding for the original pickle pipes. This Masontop Kefir fermenter; however while great for fermenting, it is not good for straining. The plastic holes catch and hold too much of the kefir and it takes a very long time stirring around the grains - like 30 minutes for 1 1/2 cups! Way too much time. It’s much easier to strain them through a sieve. So, buy it for the Masontop quality for fermenting but not for straining.

Needs bigger holes to work for milk kefir
I think this would be great for water kefir, which is of a thinner consistency, being just sugar water, and with smaller grains that don't clump together or create curds. Unfortunately, I've been trying to use it for a couple of days with my milk kefir, and it's frustrating enough I'm not sure I'll keep it. Milk is thicker than water, and thicker still once fermented. The grains themselves are somewhat big, they tend to clump together, and the milk forms a certain amount of curds when culturing. This is an ingenious setup, enabling you to twist the lid slightly open while the ferment is active, then closed for storing or shaking (my attempt to break things up to enable better straining) and is entirely removable for straining and pouring. But that's where the difficulty comes in--straining and pouring. Cultured milk kefir does not easily flow through these very small holes, especially as they are instantly blocked by the grains and curds that surround the grains. I tried closing the unit and shaking hard to break it all up, but I still find I need to pour a bit out, pull back and shake it more or rap it against the counter to dislodge everything blocking the filter, then pour/shake some more out, etc. I need to do this a whole bunch of times even when I only have a cup or two of milk, and my kefir is not over-fermented. This really needs bigger holes.

Perfect fermentation tool
These are just what I needed for my kefir production. Holes are too small for straining but I love these caps for the fermentation process.
